New HP Springs....sag setting?

Howdy!
I received my Hyper Pro springs, stripped the bike, took off OEM struts, and haven removed or replaced the OEM springs on the shocks yet. While in there, I found my front bridge ball joint was blown....that's another $120 that I didn't anticipate, but glad I found!!

Did I mess up by not measuring the bike's sag before I took the OEM shocks off or is that something you do after you install the new ones? Is this something you should do before reinstalling them by the "clicks" indicated on the HP instructions? I know, probably a dumb question, it makes sense to do it afterwards, but I'm a virgin at replacing springs here and don't want my eagerness to overstep safety!

Thanks,
Kenny

BTW....I ordered the Jensen 2212, remote controller (to replace the left handlebar controller), the iPod controller cable, and the Auxillary USB / 1/8" cable and it should be here for full install before my 6,000 mile trip so I'll have tunes back!

There are two kinds of motorcyclists.....those that ride BMWs....and those that wish they did!

When you say "blown" what do you mean more precisely? Just loose from wear? Actually cracked or broken in some way? How many miles on the bike? I ride my LT on dirt roads quite a lot and wonder just how long the front suspension is going to hold up.

Kenny, I just removed the shocks, put the new springs on, and slapped them into place (mine's an '01).

The best way to set them is to remove weight from the front wheel and measure the distance from the fork bridge to the top of the fork tube. Then sit on the bike and have some one measure the distance again. Ideal set up is to be in the middle of he suspention travel when loaded at rest. Adjust the preload until you are there. Same for the rear wheel.
