Smell of fuel while idling

I started my 02 K1200LT in the garage and let it idle for awhile and it smelled like it was running very rich. Very strong burnt fuel smell. The bike gets great fuel mileage. Around 50 MPG. The bike only has 8000 miles. Is this normal?

Normal.
Solution-don't idle it to warm it up. Just start it and go.

Don't let it idle after starting. Owner's manual states that this should not be done. It can damage the catylitic converter.
Start and go!
