K1200rt

I keep running across references to a "K1200RT". But I searched here and couldn't find anything about it, and this place is like the Library of Congress of BMW information.

Is this just a typo that just got passed through the internet? Or is it a real bike? Or was it a real bike that never got to market?

This isn't life or death or anything, just curious.

"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." That's why we know the earth is 4.5 billion years old, that vaccines are safe and effective, that GMO crops don't cause cancer, that anthropogenic global warming is a thing, and that sasquatch does not exist. But mostly it means that any oil works as well as another one.

On my fourth RT, a 2011 beast with all the cool stuff.

Re: K1200rt

One other question. Was there ever a 2010 LT?

K1200RT - someone's typo... here's an example K1200RT
I'm pretty sure K denotes 4 cylinders+
see this description (doesn't have the 1600) down at part V.

2010 K1200LT - last of the breed - only in black IIRC

I thought the 09 black was the last. I thought that there was no LT in 2010 then the new model 1600's came out in 2011

Those were manufactured in 2007 black color only, left over in warehouse 2008. I think they even added the intercom as standard at one point to sell the rest of them.

Re: K1200rt

see what happens as you get older.... the memory gets worse and worse....
must have been thinking about the last of the last model as they got sold off in 2010.

Can't believe my '05 (april 04 build) is now an 8 year old bike... it still feels so young

Re: K1200rt

The 'K' does denote four cylinders, yes, but the 'K' prefix was given to the original K100 due to the drive train design, BMW naming it their new Kompact drive arrangement, whereby no full frame exists, rather the K bike frame bolts onto the engine-gearbox unit. I don't actually know where the 'R' (boxer) comes from, I suspect some German word which begins with R. I think that the suffix RT is Reisser Tour (translates to regular tourer) and LT is Luxos Tour (translates to Luxury Tourer). I'm sure someone with good German will correct me if I need to be corrected (pulled into line here in Oz)
