Red face Re: Help- LT battery recharging?

I have an 05 K1200Lt and I just purchased the BMW Advanced Battery Charging System. I have a new BMW gel battery. The package says I have to disconnect the battery to charge it. Why? Will it cause a problem if I don't. Can anyone advise me on this Please

Mike,
It will "probably" be ok. Did that to mine, jumped it off, rode 4 miles home and it was fine. That was in September. Still ok.

Randy, just plug the charger into the power socket next to the left hand foot peg.

Re: Help- LT battery recharging?

Did the same thing this past summer. Ran inside during a thunder storm to get out of the rain, forgot to turn the key off. The battery was dead then deadier. Took it out of the bike and charge it good for a day or so. Battery still fine. Like Dave stated, some will be ok some others will have to replace.

Re: Help- LT battery recharging?

While we're on the subject, is there any reason I can't use a standard battery tender to keep my battery charged?

If you have a standard battery you can use a standard battery charger. If you have a Gel battery you need a Gel charger.

Ole Toad has had plenty many sessions with a Deltran Battery Tender, starting in 1999. It's the Battery Tender Plus, with the BMW plug linkage. First wuz the lead/acid OEM battery for a coupla years. Then a coupla Odysseys and now a Panasonic - these are the AGM types. Nary a problem on any of 'em. We use left side socket near the shifter.

Re: Help- LT battery recharging?

There is NO can-bus on the Lt, however newer RT do have it. Be sure to use the powerlet on the left side beside your shifter foot.

Nice color bike. :-)
