Cut out the cat?

Just curious.....
Has anyone ever removed the catalitic converter, (for less back pressure, less heat and more power) with any success? I know it would be louder...
Do you have to chip the motor if you do?

Of course you are referring to what Einstein called a "thought experiment" and are speaking strictly hypothetically, no doubt. Echelon is everywhere!

Re: Cut out the cat?

That's an easy job.

Pull the whole system off, cut a U shape on top of the cat, pull out the guts, weld (TIG) it back together and you're done. Doesn't affect much that I can tell. Shouldn't have to change anything but don't expect a dramatic change in performance or fuel mileage either.

Could buy a Remus exhaust system. No cat, somewhat lighter and you can actually hear it run.
