Ground strap

I had some work done to my bike over the winter with a new clutch and slave installed. I decided to put new plugs in today after work and when I got the tupperware off I noticed that there was a ground strap coming off of the cylinder head that wasn't hooked up.I reattached it. My question is, what was this strap for? The bike seemed to run fine with it loose.

Re: Ground strap

Just guessing, but on Aircraft they are bonding straps not ground straps. There are probably a couple of engineers here that can explain better, but basically it keeps the potential the same across the components.

Re: Ground strap

You need a good ground for the sparks to work properly, however there will be many other routes from the head back to ground, it is just better to have a solid strap.
