Low price tire

Well I was so happy to find such a great price on a rear tire for the 09 LT. $172 for a Metzler Marathon 880 160/70-17.

It was brought to my attention that this tire would probably not have the same speed rating as the tire currently on my bike. It was also brought to my attention that the tire should say reinforced on the side wall.

I called the people at Chaparral and they assured me that the tire I purchased would be fine for my bike. They said that all Bias ply tires are reinforced.

Well Dave you were right, the tire came today and sure enough it isn't the 79V rating it has an H rating (which I think I can live with) my concern is that it doesn't say reinf on the sidewall. I called them again and again they assured me that it IS reinforced and not to worry, this tire is perfectly fine for my bike.

What do you experts think??

Re: Low price tire

No, It is not the correct tire and is not weight rated for the LT.
Send it back.

Re: Low price tire

The problem is not "living" with the tire... It's what happens if the tire goes flat while you're moving.....

Believe me you don't want that to happen... You can quite easily be killed...The tire will fold up underneath you and will become a ball bearing...You'll fishtail till you crash, Hit something or get run over.... Crash is the most favorable of those choices..

I know this from experience... I purchased an R1200CLC that had the wrong tires on it... Was fine until the valve stem failed.. ATGATT and my ability to get a nearly out of control motorcycle off the road saved us..... It we'd have hit anything we'd have been killed.. If we'd stayed or crashed on the road we'd have been run over...We were on the Interstate going every bit of 70 mph when the valve stem failed.. Another cheapo from the previous owner..

Definately not worth saving $15.00

Re: Low price tire

get your $$ back or eat it, but whatever you do don't install it, safety isn't worth compromising.

The Metzler site clearly notes that it is reinforced for the rear, it is not the same tire you got and not rated properly for these road whales.

Re: Low price tire

WOW!!! THANK YOU GUYS!!!!

I just got off of the phone with chaparral in CA. I finally talked to someone who knew about tires. I didn't even have to get feisty! He looked it up and realized that they sent me the wrong tire. They are going to send me the proper tire and eat the cost of shipping this one back.

I am happy they are going to rectify the situation but am very frustrated that they couldn't get it right the first time. I told 2 different people what bike I had, one of them twice. And they still got it wrong, why couldn't they do what this last guy did? Even when I had the tire in hand comparing it to my current tire the guy told me the tire was fine.

I should have the proper tire soon.

Thanks again, I love this site!!

Re: Low price tire

Unfortunately these days most businesess if they're lucky have one guy who knows what;s going on... The rest are just filling slots....

With machinery such as the LT, It's the owner/user/pilot who better know what the heck he's doing.. It's his life on the line...

Glad you got back on the right track...
