Question on Hide-Away antenna

I just installed a 44UA20 Hide-Away high gain amplified AM/FM antenna on my 2005 LT. The FM reception is good but I do not get AM or the weather channel. I get a lot of motor noise on the AM and weather channel. I see a lot of people using these is it a problem? Is there something special in installing them? I sure would like to remove the stick antenna.

It happened to me too. I bought one through Car Toys and they said it was the BMW radios and antenna matching. They said thay have the same problem with the cars. I gave up on the idea for now. Good luck.

Hi Jerry,

I tried one and tore it out after a quick trip. FM was okay, AM and weather were non-existent.

Good luck.

I've had one for over two years and wouldn't give it up for nothing. Works great for FM. AM doesn't work if the bike is running. The weather bands work fine all the time. Fortunately, I never listen to AM. Never! In fact, I only listen to FM maybe once or twice a year. I've wanted to figure out a fix for AM, but just never seem to remember as I don't use AM. The only time I think about "the issue" is when one of these threads come up.

Is this really that consistent of a problem with the AM and weather channels? Is there anyone out there who has made it work -- maybe with a different product -- or do I have to scratch this mod off my list?

I have yet to see anyone fix the AM issue. Again . . . my weather bands work just fine.

Thumbs down Hide-Away Antenna

I do not listen to FM hardly at all. I listen to XM mostly but I do listen to AM in our area. We have one real good AM station that I listen for news, which I cannot pickup at all. I do use the weather channel when traveling, again it will not work at all. I am removing it and going back to the original antenna. I paid $32.64 with shipping for the unit. Anyone that wants it I will ship it anywhere in the United States for $25.00. Thanks for the replies.

I am

going to take mine out as well. I don't listen that much to FM but AM has NPR on it here in Denver and that is what I like to listen to going and coming from work.
My weather band does work.

I do not see much use of having a hide-away antenna if the radio does not work. I put it in yesterday and just finished taking it out today. I put it on Ebay to sell. I see they are listed on Ebay.

Dave--thanks for the info. I will give it a try while the bike is apart for the HID install. I will post results.

Re: Question on Hide-Away antenna

I completely gave up on the idea of a hidden antenna. Took my antenna off, bought a bluetooth to plug into the aux input of the radio, and use my smartphone app "tune in radio" works much better than any antenna, and can listen to anything i want,
