Shock and tire question

I have read alot on this forum regarding replacing the rear springs. I have a 2002 Klt and I weigh about 225 pounds. I have to struggle to get on the center stand sometimes. From what I read it sounds like I need to replace the rear spring. Any opinions?

Also I have read alot of posts talking about cupping of the tires. I am relatively new and I dont know what that is, can anyone help a newbie understand?

Regarding the rear spring question, that may be the reason you hare having a hard time getting it on the center stand. If the height of the bike is too low, you can first try to adjust it with changing the dampening pressure of the rear shock absorber. Look under your seat and find the adjusting knob. It is hinged and will rotate upward so that you can crank on more pressure.

The tire cupping thing is pretty common, especially with lower air pressure. It just means that you are getting uneven tire wear as evidenced by undulations in the tread surface. To eliminate or reduce the possibility of cupping set your tire pressure to 42 front and 48 rear. That is about 5 more than the owners manual calls for. Theory is that BMW is more interested in you having a smooth ride than getting good tire wear.
