Laughing out loud

Took my 2000 LT out for her first ride of the season two days ago. She's got over 91k miles on her and I had been toying (again) with the idea of replacing her. But I gotta say, after a short ride on some nice roads (for Iowa), I fell in love all over again. Found myself laughing out loud as I rode down the road weaving in and out of the yellow lines at over 70 (no one around) and realizing how easily she handled that. I was literally laughing out loud. Guess I'll keep her another season. She seems as good as ever.

Re: Laughing out loud

The older I get, the more stories I have.

Back in 1998, I was installing a CD changer in my 1989 Corvette. I had to pull the carpet to do so.

At the time Stapleton International Airport had been decomissioned, but the runways were still being used for SCCA racing. The wife and I loaded up the Vette to go test'n'tune and I stopped off at the Dealership to buy $1.50 worth of carpet plugs to nail the carpet back down.

We left two hours later with a 1989 Corvette, two carpet plugs, and a 1998 Corvette.

We would have traded in the 89, but gosh darned it if they wanted to give me half of what I still owed on it. They went ON and ON how it was November, and it was a convertible, and they'd have to sit on it all winter long and I said "Fine, We'll hold on to it" with the intent of selling it myself in the spring.

approximately three weeks after that, "Our 98 Corvette" subtly became "HER" 98 Corvette...and the first 72-degree top-down spring day the 89 became "MY" Corvette and I decided to keep it.

Still have it. In fact, it's about the only thing we got out of the Dot Com bust.

Re: Laughing out loud

Put about 300 fun-filled miles on my 02 LT yesterday. Returned home to find that the rear tire I was intending to replace next month was showing threads down the center. Now it's getting replaced next Thursday.

We aren't super close, but let me know if you ever want to get the LT's together for a ride.

Re: Laughing out loud

I know that feeling! And, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only who does that.

The first time it happened to me was June 2, 2008. My '05 LT had 51k miles on it, and I had taken it to my BMW dealer the previous week to have the original shocks replaced with a set of Ohlins. They gave me an '05 R1200ST as a service loaner while they had my LT; not the most comfortable bike, but it got me to and from work for several days. When I picked up the LT I was so glad to get back to the LT's ergonomics, and those new shocks were such an improvement over the old ones, that I did just as you describe.
