thinking of coming back home for awhile.. to the LT..

I sold my LT last Dec and got a R12GSA just to check it out.

I also took the BMW off road course to learn to ride a GSA. Well I learned that off road was NOT for me.

SO I have listed my R12GSA for sale have have a buyer lined up..

I took a test drive on the GTL this morning and these were my impressions.

1. The stereo was weak. Could not hear at highway speed
2. This is the first time I felt "back pressure" from the wind. (I sure never felt that on the LT)
3. The engine was smooth as silk, stalled it a few times afraid that I would over rev the engine
4. The top case looks "after market" not integrated like on the LT
5. MY C3 did not fit the top case. We tried several diff ways and it would not fit. HUM??? Do I have a fat head?
6. The controls were WAY over complicated
7. I like to channel surf, the volume control was nice but to be able to channel surf would be a requirement.

So I am thinking I might need to go back to an LT.

At least in my opinion, the LT provides the best stereo, best fairing / wind protection great styling and easy to use controls..

UGH now what?

My Goldwing buddy wants me to test drive a wing, but I am just not the biggest fan of owning what everyone else has..

Call me a snob if you want...

Re: thinking of coming back home for awhile.. to the LT..

My best friend has a 2012 'Wing and I bought his 2000 LT. When we get into the mountains, I can corner a quite well, but I can always outlast him to the gas stops. He is a longer legged fellow, and he likes the Goldwing a little better. I like the deal he gave me on the Beemer myself.
The LT is the passengers choice hands down so far. And, as we all know, THAT really matters.
I will say, I can hear HIS radio over mine, WITH a full face helmet. That thing ROCKS soundwise.

Never apologize for not wanting to ride a GW.

I'm only 63. Not old enough to ride a GW yet. Maybe another decade under my belt will change my mind.

Re: thinking of coming back home for awhile.. to the LT..

Paul....go ahead and ride a GW...you'll probably be disappointed. I WANTED to like the GW...I'm a Honda fan. I just couldn't get over some of the little things...ie: foot room, croch ride-up (sliding toward the tank), air buffeting, my wife's discomfort with the rear seat. Unfortunately, the LT is difficult to beat.

Re: thinking of coming back home for awhile.. to the LT..

The way I figger, it's a lack of choice more than anything else.

Sports cars? Take your pick. BMW, Audi, Porche, Ferrari, Corvette, Lambo.

Bikes? Goldwingabago, Hardly Davidson, or BMW?

Not much of a question there.

The good thing is that even if you accidentally buy a black one you can paint it purple! Ain't it great to live in America!

I thought purple was that "special limited" edition, do you really want to encourage someone to have a fake purple one.

Plus, Dark Graphite is the fastest color. Painting it purple will just slow it down. Ever see Barney the Dinosaur run fast? I rest my case.

Re: thinking of coming back home for awhile.. to the LT..

I'm not an overly "large" guy, at 6'1", 210 pounds, with a 32" inseam. I had to make some mods to the LT to finally get comfortable enough for the long days (800 to 1200 km days). A friend of mine has an '09 wing. Could not get comfortable at all. I looked at what kind of mods I would have to do to make it into a long haul machine, and frankly, it just wasn't worth it. I'm basically screwed when I mile out the LT. Me thinks I may not be able to find another one, and I don't see any viable replacement at this time. If you are considering the wing, try and get one for a LONG ride first before making the investment. You know how it goes, not every bike fits every rider.

As soon as I get the bike sorted out Bill, my GW buddy, and I are heading on March 29th from Orlando thru TN to NYC and Canada and back again for a leisurely 9 day jaunt covering 20 states and back thru NYC, PHL Boston.

THAT is why I need my LT back

Do I have a fat head?

Call me a snob if you want...
The BMW Performance School ain't cheap. I read your review of it. Sounded like you had fun. What happened? You get off in the woods, "I've fallen and can't get up!" Reminds me of why I don't have a dirt bike anymore!

YES! I like to think of it as big brained!

SNOB! Hmm. I'm one too!

Love ya, mean it! Welcome back, Paul. What was it about the GSA that didn't work for you? I test rode one a few years back, but just didn't feel like it "spoke" to me. Plus, I doubt I'd ever take it off road.

Re: thinking of coming back home for awhile.. to the LT..

After all these years you owners of "Black" LT's dont get it! The Canyon Red LT leaves the showroom floor "Red" and after its broke in it turns black from either "Re-Entry" or "High Speed Cruise's" "RAM" rise!

"The difference between TAT and SAT is called ram rise (RR) and is caused by compressibility and friction of the air at high velocities"

TAT = Total Air Temp
SAT = Static Air Temp

This effect will cause the paint to change colors as most owners of Canyon Red will attest too!

Just Saying!

Later Steve

Not much of a question there.
Thank GOD I'm not the only guy to think that! There REALLY isn't a whole lot to choose from in this niche.
