iPhone 4, Satchi Sounf-fly bt

Hello to all , I have read everything I can find on this but I can not locate the thread that I previously read about someone using the Satchi unit.

So, here goes.
K1200lt 2003
Satchi sound-fly BT
Iphone 4

The Sound-fly has Bluetooth to the iPhone and transmits FM.
It has mic-in 2.5 (2 segment cable)
Headphones out 2.5 (2 Segment I think)
aux in 2.5 (2 Segment I think)
DS Card slot
USB slot (will Charge the iPhone)

I have been using it in my car for the last 6 months... using the Satchi wired 2 segment cabled mic. It has some quirks and like everything else less than perfect sound (FM) but functions well enough. ( occasionally I have to reset the power to get the Bluetooth to sync). Once and a while it does not remember which audio source it was working with and than does not come back to the same audio level, requiring power reset or switching back and forth a couple of times on the iPhone out selection (which might acutely be the phones problem).

That said...
Someone here ( if memory serves) had recommended the unit as a relatively cheap substitute for the Zumo etc.

My problem...
I can't find the spec for the BMW communications cell phone connection.
the iPhone seems to use a 4 segment 3.5
I keep finding misc definitions for the BMW 2.5 port.

If I listen using FM I have functionality but how do I get the mic from the helmet to input to the Iphone?

3.5 4 segment to 2.5 4 segment?
3 segment?
2 segment? on the BMW input?

Your input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks to all in advance.

Re: iPhone 4, Satchi Sounf-fly bt

From what I can gather:

The iPhone needs both the 'hands free' and 'A2DP' profiles sync'd to the unit, and it's expecting a microphone be connected to the Mic jack to get it to work...it would then send the Audio for the phone conversation through the radio.

If you wanted a wired connection for audio from the iPhone, it would need some kind of splitter to split out the 4 contact headphone jack (which is left, right, and mic), to a Stereo jack and a Mic jack...assuming the Satechi doesn't support a mic-in in the same jack.

In theory, you wouldn't NEED a connection between the phone and the Satechi, beyond keeping the phone charged. See the sample video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B21_jBeEPd0

I have NO idea how it would work in a windy environment like the motorcycle at highway speed, you'll have to try it and report back

Zumo is a GPS, and not strictly necessary to what you're trying to do. While it is ALSO a Bluetooth receiver for phones, it's not something you'd need here. (esp. if you're using a GPS app on the iPhone.)

This post could really benefit from having a whiteboard for pictures.

Looks like you are using the Satchi to pickup the BMW radio FM source and Bluetooth it to your phone?

Now it looks like you are hard wiring something, I guess the comm unit to the phone?

Little help please, what are you trying to do, hardwire the phone or bluetooth the phone?

Re: iPhone 4, Satchi Sounf-fly bt

Thanks to all so far...
The Bluetooth component takes the audio and converts it to FM playing through the radio set to the same station. ( Pandora is great this way)

The unit as I have been using it requires a separate mic to input through the Soundlfy which than outputs through the FM to radio etc.

So, Sound out Sound-fly FM to Radio. ( or can be hardwired out as well... but still needs a mic input)

But I am trying to use the BMW Comm to go from the headset mic to the iPhone which I believe requires the output from the iPhone plug to be plugged into the cell input port on the BMW comm unit.
I maybe muddying the issue by using the FM component... Maybe it should just be hardwired to the Comm.

But I still don't know what the BMW connector is supposed to be.
2.5 4 segment (Which is what the Iphone uses)
2.5 3 segment ?

Re: iPhone 4, Satchi Sounf-fly bt

The pinout for the Apple side of the cable appears to be the:
tip = left Audio
1segment = right audio
2nd segment = ground
3 rd segment = mic

The BMW comm is too old for a 4 segment plug as it only has a three segment input. You may be able to tap the mic from the comm system but I don't have the phone pinout for the the BMW comm unit. It may be like most in that the mic is on the first and second sleeve with the tip being the receive (or ear piece wihone of the sleeves a ground)

Switching to an autocomm unit would work as that is what I run with my Droid (same phone side pinout).
Hope you got the working DVD this time.

HI John thanks yes the disc worked.... Thanks for the speedy replacement.

not sure what you are explaining with: (or ear piece wihone of the sleeves a ground)

All the new pins seem to use the 3rd segment as the grnd.
