New Battery

Hi guys I know there have been battery threads before but I have a little question. Has anyone had experience with Yusa batteries. I see them advertised frequently and they are just under $100.00 for my Lt. I usually go for the oem but the 80-90 dollar difference makes me wonder if it is an acceptable replacemnet.

Re: New Battery

Hard to say. I have a Wërker battery from Batteries Plus and it is really only a 98% replacement. The tabs had to be slightly drilled out to work, and the Negative Terminal doesn't _quite_ line up with the cable. It works, but I'm not happy with it.

Re: New Battery

I bought my Odyssey from Batteries Plus. With my discount it was cheaper than buying one from the stealer.

Re: New Battery

The Yuasa that was new when I bought my '02 used in '04 lasted 5 years. I replaced it prophylacticly when it started to slow crank on cold mornings.

I replaced the wet cell on my GS last Fall with an Odyssey when they when on sale at Amazon for $105.

Re: New Battery

I replaced the OEM battery last year with one of these http://www.batterystuff.com/powerspo...T51913-22.html from Batterystuff.com. Same Amp hrs and CCA as BMW spec, $ 89.00 right now the fit was correct no adapters needed like the Odyssey P680, they also carry the P680 for $135.

That is actually an 18A/hr battery and if I'm not mistaken, the original is 19A/hr, BUT, I also replaced my original battery with a cheap 18A/hr battery (think it is a Yukon), for a third of the price of the original battery sold by BMW here in SA. Figured 3 of the cheap batteries will definately outlast a single expensive BMW battery. So far, no issues whatsover. Interesting thing is that the orignal BMW batteries on both my 2009 LT and 2009 RT had to be replaced recently - the one in December 2011 and the other in January 2012 - i.e. they did not last much longer than 2 years. Some of the Yukon batteries in my quad bikes have been lasting for 4 years now and they are actually being abused to an extend, because the quads are standing for long periods, sometimes for months.
I have however heard that on the older BMW bikes (if I'm not mistaken the 1150 GS / Adventure), fitting the cheaper batteries often result in the ABS system giving fault codes.

Re: New Battery

Most people do not know the difference between a trickle charger and a battery tender/maintainer. A trickle or regular charger if left on the battery for long periods will ruin the battery. A tender/maintainer is safe and smart to leave on all the time. A tender/maintainer senses when the battery is fully charged and turns the charge off. It then monitors the batteries charge and when needed it turns on again. You have to be careful when buying a tender/maintainer as some are worded so that they sound like a tender but are actually trickle chargers. You have to make sure the unit shuts the charging off and turns it on automatically. I have had my battery for five years on a tender since new and its as strong as can be. Unfortunately I learned the hard way after frying a brand new battery over the winter thinking I had bought a tender and it was a trickle charger.

I do have some experience with Yuasa, have owned a number of them, and consider them to be first quality. These are (or were) OEM for some or all of the Japanese bike manufacturers.

That said, when I replaced my LT battery a couple years ago, I bought the Westco AGM battery from BeemerBoneyard, and have been happy with it. It was also about $100.
