Re: what size are o rings

If your quick connects are at the point of needing new parts, why not do the safe thing and replace them with one that will not break and go with metal replacements?

Re: what size are o rings

The second time I removed my tank I broke one of the disconnects. I switched them out to the ones......

Re: what size are o rings

I don't think you can even buy the plastic male ends from the bmw dealers anymore, they have gone to the metal ones. At least get those, it will come with the o-ring. That plastic male fuel fitting will strand you when it cracks. Its not if, its when.

Geez, here is the answer to your question.

size 011. Mcmaster Carr p/n 9452K19

Buna-N O-Ring AS568A Dash Number 011

Page 3482 in the catalog

The o'rings are the same when you go to the metal QD's

Mine was not one of the lucky ones... I was riding down the road when I noticed the smell of gasoline. I thought it was something I was passing by, until my leg felt wet and I looked down to see fuel spraying out onto me. Same thing happened to a couple of friends of mine.

I suspect you will get many +1 post on this next remark... I do not recommend that you wait until next time you have the tank off. Spend a few hours and protect yourself. On the side of the road is not the time or place to realize you should have done it sooner than later.

YMMV

Re: what size are o rings

Or, you can go to a good auto parts store. Disconnect on of your QDs and then bring in the O-ring.

Re: what size are o rings

Make sure that you get "Viton" O-rings.
When I ordered new QD's from the Boneyard, they came with a couple of spare O-rings.

I don't think that Buna-N (nitrile) plays well with gasoline.

Re: what size are o rings

Yep, viton are better, and in this case probably not that much more expensive. The rubber ones are OEM.

Re: what size are o rings

i ended up at the dealer yesturday and grabed a pair. i would be careful if going to the local parts store. i tryed that monday even an hydrolics shop. but be careful the o rings are most likley metric. we ( my family) have had some problems when supplied with non metric o rings for a metric application.(had to remove disassemble & reinstall the engine of an old car due to oil leaks)
thanks again for the part #

Re: what size are o rings

bought 4 from the dealer 13$ and they were bmw parts. but not viton o rings,

to my knolage all viton are brown the bmw ones were black so were the ones that came
off the bike.mabey that is why they got hard and failed(but they were probely original 2002) as the bike only has 20K on it. put new o rings & a little lube & bingo no more leak
but will be changeing to metal connects next time tank is off
