Lightbulb Look Ma, NO hands!

Got back a few days ago from the "Pilgrimage to Daytona." A quick and satisfying 3000 miles after a long, bleak and cold winter! Now the LT needs new oil.

It was sunny and 35 today so took a quick run around the county to warm up the fluids before changing them.

There I am sitting on the frozen garage floor holding the funnel while the 20w-50 takes its sweet time oozing down into the pan. At 35 degrees it takes awhile. What a PITA. I start staring at the little hex shapes in the output side of the radiator vents.

I could hook something in there to support the damn funnel. So, while balancing a full funnel of oil, I snaked a cable tie in there and carefully looped it through the hole in the funnelís handle.

Relief came fast. What had I been thinking so long? Duh.

Pix attached below!

I canít be the only guy to grow a brain here Ė What do you do?

Oh, BTW, the other shots are what you missed IF you didnít do Daytona!

No Hands

So, you must have kept your hands by your side in Daytona!!!!

You "warmed up the fluids in the bike before changing them". Was the oil you added at room temperature? Speeds the adding process a little.

"What do you do?"

I have always used the "RED LINE OIL" funnel with a 24 inch nylon string tied to the chrome bar just above the spot you used to "support the damn funnel". The Red Line funnel capacity is to small, so I keep my hands on the oil container to keep adding oil to the funnel. Somebody must use a larger diameter tube and a gallon container to just dump 4 qts into the sump.

Did you take your movie camera to Daytona to document the "skin" in motion? B.B.

Hi Barnett, good to hear your voice! Yup, I'm gonna get a BIGGER funnel now that I've discovered the obvious!

I did bring a DVcam with me, but ended up shooting only stills. There was soooo much craziness, it was mind-numbing.

Hope you guys survived winter okay, my best to Wilma.

My funnel is quite a bit longer than yours (not that I'm bragging ), and fits nicely between the tip-over wing and my J-Peg. Just another nice feature of J-Pegs. I never thought to post pics about it.

As for your attached pics...one of these things is NOT like the other. The pic of that girl standing is horrid. Someone needed to throw a towel over that old girl! YIKES!!! (At least I know my gag-reflex is still in working order...)

Joe, you took the words right out of my mouth. Yikes. It would be an act of mercy for someone to send her that photo.

I was also thinking: if she fell off the bike at speed there'd be a lot of road rash involved and she'd deserve every bit of it.

Hi Pat. Yup, I was heading back to the barn about then, so it might have been me! Too beautiful a day not to get out and dance.

OK, Chuck, you owe me a new keyboard! Don't you dare do that ever again without warning. Do you know how coffee hurts when it comes out through the nostrils?

Smile No Hands

Hi Averill,
Nice pics... kinda warms the cockles of your heart on a cold Minnesota day. We're getting near riding season again... highs a little above freezing lately.. maybe another week or so.

About changing oil and what do you do? I kneel there on my knees like a dummy and hold the funnel and wait for the 20-50 to slowly trickle down the tube. Duh !!! You can bet there will be a wire tie next time. Thanks.

Just sold the 02 and have a new 06 being delivered next week. Loaded with all the goodies. I'm a "LITTLE" excited.

How is the R100 running... still have it? I still have the yellow Wing. Think I put about 800 miles on it last year. But it looks pretty sitting there in the garage.

Hello Don!

I'm wishing you Happy Spring! one day early! You folks up there deserve it.

Great news about the '06! Let me know if you get to use those extra 15 ponies!

Yup, still have the /7... but, I do ride it less. Compared to the LT it has NO BRAKES! Suzanne is suggesting I let it go. Hmmm. But, like you said, "It sure looks pretty sitting there!"

Take care and glad the original intent of this odd thread helped.
