Sad day... LT is gone

About a month ago I read this on another forum

"I think if a person can afford it they should try every bike they want to ride . I want to ride em all !

Test rides dont mean much ,I have to own and live with them. Some I want to keep forever and some I want trade off in 6 months.

It great to have all these choices if you are not loyal to one brand."

Then three weeks ago I went and took some training at the BMW performance center in SC and rode the R1200GSA for a day of on road training and really liked the bike.

So last week I put the LT up for sale on a whim to see what the response would be and had a buyer by the end of the day.

SO, today he came over and drove the LT to a new home.

Wednesday I fly to Memphis to take posession of a slightly used R1200GSA.

I want to thank all of you here for the help, advice etc for the last year and I will for sure stick around and see how the LT gang is doing and I will be moving over to the ADVRIDER.com site and the GS section of this site.

See yall around and you never know when I will device that the LT was really the bike for me.

My '09 gave me ZERO trouble to speak of for 25K miles in 12 months and I loved her.

Once you take the upper left fairing off you will have easy access to the fuel rail.

I do not remember if you will have to unbolt the fuel tank and push it back slightly and up to get at one of the fuel lines.

Disconnecting one of the fuel lines to the rail will show if you are getting fuel to the rail.

Re: Sad day... LT is gone

Au revoir Paul. It's been good "riding" with you on the forum. Enjoy the new ride and stay out of trouble with it!

Sometimes I think it would be fun to ride off road again but with all of the regulations, land owner fear of liability, etc so much of the back country is just no longer available for riding. Although I could probably spend years riding the US Forest Service roads...........

Nope! Nope! Keeping the LT!

Be careful out there!

Re: Sad day... LT is gone

Hi Paul,

Enjoy the new ride - I think I know how you felt as the K1200LT left. I have pictures of mine leaving several months ago. An unexpected sad day, but one mixed with the thought of the new ride on it's way.

Just remember, as it was said to me several months ago,

"The bike is just the start. The farkles go on and on !" I know you'll enjoy getting her outfitted and hope to see you this coming Saturday at the RTE down south.

There has to be at least one K1200LT coming......

Re: Sad day... LT is gone

See you on the ADVRider site.
After 11 years and 116,000 miles,
my 2001 LT and Bushtec trailer are part of the family.
The three of us did the Iron Butt Saddlesore at the BMW MOA rally in Bloomsburg.
Just returned from a 1600 mile TDY trip to Tampa, FL and back.
Added a 2009 GS Adventure in December 2009.
Original owner had put on 1504 miles in a year.
It's now at 16,000 miles and climbing.
Not an LT replacement, but loads of fun in it's own way.
Even better when I replaced the stock shocks with Ohlins at 5000 miles.
Added a 2011 K1600GTL in August 2011.
Had to replace the front and rear tires at 4500 miles.
6000 mile service scheduled for next week.
Put a Bushtec hitch on the GTL,
but haven't taken it on a trip yet.
Not willing to give up any of the bikes.
All paid for.
Won't get much for the LT.
So just ride, maintain, and enjoy.

Have fun on your GSA.

Gary, I would like to have the time and the garage space for 2-3 bikes and eventually I will, but right now I am time and space constrained. PLUS I want to try a few more bikes before I start my stable.

Of course my riding buddy who is a winger (WingNUT) is begging me to get a Wing. FAT Chance, for now...

Actually, ever since I picked up the GTL,
my wife's car is now parked outside.
Needed the additional garage space for the third bike.

I know you'll enjoy your GSA.
Especially since you've already attended the BMW off-road course.
Since you're driving back from Memphis,
you could turn it into an Iron Butt Saddlesore 1000..
Memphis-Knoxville-Atlanta-Savannah-Home.....

Safe travels.
Hope the weather holds.

I alrady have two 1000 rides and the 50CC.

I think just getting home on a "new to me" bike would be a sucessful trip.
