Re: buying battery from auto part store

This is a straight forward value proposition:

You can buy a generic lead acid Chinese battery from a brick and mortar auto parts store that will last MAYBE a few years - they're all pretty much the same.

OR

You can buy an Odyssey AGM PC 680 that will last for MANY years.

The Odyssey is roughly double the cost.

Whichever one you choose you'll have to have a trickle charger plugged in at all times in order to get the maximum use.

My last battery was a Panasonic, and it has actually lasted longer than the Odyessy battery I had before.

I was a HUGE fan of Panasonic batteries when they were made in Japan, unfortunately I understand they are now made in - where else - China. maybe they're as good but I have my doubts...

The OEM Panasonic in my wife's 2002 Honda CRV lasted 7 years - THAT is remarkable - and especially in a hot climate. I had one in my first LT that was excellent as well - and the price used to be a bargain.

The LCX 1220P can now be had for around $80.00. With the stratospheric prices of the PC680 ($100.00) I would probably buy another one in a heartbeat...

Re: buying battery from auto part store

When I got in a bind - out'a town with a dead battery - I ran down to a local motorcycle/atv shop, pulled mine, and bought one with similar dimensions and power output. Worked very well for the trip I was on, but replaced it with the right battery when I got home. Just a thought.

These bikes are a little more "complex" than your average garden tractor and/or Harley,
just about everything on them is controlled by some kind of electrical component,

how much money will you have "saved" if a cheap battery (eventually) takes out something like your motronic unit?

Just my logic and 2 cents worth,
do it once, do it right, in the long run you'll come out ahead.

Also factor in that batteries will die suddenly, & at the most inopportune moment. I have been riding BMW's since 1970, & learned the hard way, buy cheap, buy twice, or thrice.
