2005 K1200 LT Value

I need a little help before purchasing a 2005. The bike looks as it did on the showroom floor. It has less than 2500 miles on it, and has every option offered by BMW for that year. The price is a firm $13,000. Is the price within reason? I am leaning toward the purchase. But I don't want to pay more than it's worth. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

Both KBB & NADA shows about $11,000 in excellent condition you can add a few dollars for low mileage.
Local area can be a + or - but usually not more than $500.

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

That price seems at the high end to me, even with all the farkles.

I know a 2005 with everything, comm, cb, hid, motolights, hyper lights, gps, etc etc that would not sell this summer for $12,500. It did have more mileage (18,000) but all BMW dealer installs and maintenance records.

Since it is a 2005 with 2500 miles you will need make sure a few things have been taken care of, battery and tires come to mind right away. Does it have a HID upgrade, if not you would want to do that. Have the brake and clutch fluids been changed on a regular basis? Does it have 6 year old engine and gear oil?

Some things to think about... I am sure others will have a few I missed.

BTW; Purchased mine with 12,000 miles last year for $9400.00

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

I think you can find a better deal then that. Low miles doesnt mean new. I just bought a 2005 with 29k on it for 7500.00. It has all the BMW options and new tires. I just finnished the 30k service. All parts including Clymer and BMW manuals, skid plate (didnt have on on the bike), new grips and all fluids/gaskets/shims was 520.00. So for a little over 8100.00, I have a bike that looks and runs like new.

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

Sounds like I overpaid for the 2005 I just bought. Had <4,800 miles, in excellent condition, and all the LT options, and I paid a hair under $11,000.00.

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

13K is a bit much... I would look for an 05 in the neighborhood of 10-11K.
Now if the dealer agrees to throw in an extended coverage of at least 3 years this might sweeten the deal and make it more appealing.

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

Ya'll are pissing in my cheerios... Here I though I got a screaming deal for my new one... '05 (every OEM option) Piaas, Moto Lights, GPS w/ 27K for $9.2....

Sheesh....I'm going back to my corner....

To the OP... While looking for an '05 recently there were several in the 10-11K range, and a member here in CO that was willing to take 9K... If you have the cash available, the better deal your going to get, 11K at a stealer would be a good find IMHO...

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

Thanks for the input. I felt it was a little high but I was letting my heart get ahead of my brain, if you know what I mean. Beautiful Bike, but I know there are plenty more out there just as nice, but at a more realistic price. Thanks helping me make a wise decision to look around a bit more. I have a 2000 K1200 LTC in great condition which will serve me well until I find the Bike I want for a decent price. Ron

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

Not that it makes any difference, but an '05 with everything except the BMW navigator, and with very low Km's (10 to 15,000) here in Aus sells for around $20K

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

You are in Chicago and winter is upon us. I would wait a while and see if the seller comes down in price. Most people are not in the market for bikes this time of year, not to mention the economy. You will find the right bike at the right price if you are patient. Look to get one for KBB trade in value or less. Just picked up my 03 LTE for $1200 less than KBB trade in Value and it is 8 out of 10.

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

I bought a 2005 LT last year with 8,500 for $9,300. The bike was in excellent condition; however, it needed new tires and some fluids changed. Personally, I would wait before I would shell out that kind of money for an 05 as there are plenty of deals out there for a bike. Damn. I would sell you my bike for $11,300. I think others would concur that there isn't too much of a difference between a 2005 LT with 2,500 or 8,500 miles.

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

I can honestly say that I am a "glass-half-full-man", but am I the only one who finds it strange that a 2005 *touring* bike has only run 2500 miles? That's a measly average of 400 miles per year. Nobody with an LT does 400 miles per year. 400 miles per *day* comes first. So was it dropped in year one and the owner was too scared to ride it anymore? Did someone mess about with the odometer? Why is the mileage so low for a bike that old?

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

My '05 had 11000 miles on it with Nav III and I picked it up for $9900 which I believe was fair, not great. It needed some TLC as it had not been ridden in a few years, found 2 mouse nests and a few chewed wires, and a few scratches that I've been working on, but I'm mostly through all that now and starting to farkle.... The price of $13 sounds high to me - something in really good condition with options should be $10-11k.

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

Just for comparison. I bought my 07 for 13000, 30k on the odometer with Nav III, bag liners, safety straps on the mirrors, fairly new tires, and all the maint records. That was from a dealer.

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

I'll bet you can get it for much less! I agree, it is getting winter, and dealers don't want to keep inventory on the floor and pay interest on it all winter. It does sound like a nice bike, and basically LT didn't change any after 05, except for color! The newest model year gave you a choice of black or black.

This what I would do with ChiTown winter coming up quick; Offer a price in writing you think fair and leave your contact info with the seller in case he finds your offer suitable. you be surprised how often the firm price becomes your price, always allow some wiggle room.

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

do a search on craigslist and see what other people are selling the bike for. try searchtempest dot com as they'll combine craigslist search from the entire country. This is one of the things that I do when I sell or buy a bike.

Re: 2005 K1200 LT Value

The price could depend on location and whether you buy it from a dealer vs a private.
But if you do buy from a private in cash I would pay more than 11,500 at the most. The price range with that low mileage from a private could vary between $10K to $11,5K depending on the area and time of the year. If form a private I really don't think he/she can sell for more than 11k right now. All this with the assumption that the bike is just fully stock. Good luck!
