Wondering if it sounds right

Would it be OK if I post a video clip of the 2000 K1200LT Custom that I bought a couple of days ago? I was thinking that if I started it and maybe gave it a rev or two the forum goers that are familiar with the motorcycle could tell me if anything that is sounding obviously wrong could give me a heads up.

I know it won't be a definitive test, but I like in a small mountain town and the nearest dealer is probably 100 miles away and this will give me something to go on until I can get it to them for an inspection of sorts.

If this is something that has no value, please let me know and I won't waste your time.

Thanks.

Re: Wondering if it sounds right

I am not sure what the size limits here allow for, but if you can post it anywhere and link to it, I am pretty sure nobody would mind giving it a listen. I have only been around here about four years, but I have never seen anybody that needed it not get help.

Thanks. I'll do as you suggest. It sounds good to me, but there is some stuttering, but I think that is from the dealer filling it with regular unleaded instead of premium. Ive made the assumption that it was well cared for, since every maintenance milestone was stamped by the dealer as being completed. I just want some piece of mind.

The bike will not "Stutter" as a result of using regular fuel.

+1 I run regular (87) a lot these days and no problem. Try a treatment of Sea Foam in the gas.

Zach, you can either post the vid on youtube or a service like photobucket.

Thanks for the info. Trying to find the time to do this now. YouTube is a good idea.

Y'all can run all the regular you want. Just be aware the LT does not have a knock sensor to retard the timing. I have seen two engines so far that have all the piston ring lands fractured from detonation. Caveat Emptor. Especially the 05 and up with the higher compresion RS pistons.

Re: Wondering if it sounds right

Here is a link to the YouTube video of the engine sound. I gave the throttle a quick 1/4 twist while in N.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbXBLhrhRZM

When I started it, has been on the center stand for about 4 days, some smoke came from what appears to be the area in front of the side stand. I know smoke is normal if left on the side stand, but didn't know if it was normal on the center stand.

I know you probably can't tell a lot just from the quick clip, just wondering if you could hear anything obviously wrong.

I talked with the original owner of the motorcycle, and he said he never had a problem, except for a fork seal, which he replaced.

I'm not sure if there is a skid plate on it. Is the oil pan rear of the side stand and grey? If it is I don't think he ever had a skid plate.

I'm taking it in for it's 72K service on Saturday, I just want some piece of mind.

I have heard "I'll hold the phone up to it" before, but a sound file on YouTube is a new one to me. I bit.

I heard nothing scary on your recording, it sounded like mine as far as I could tell. If you don't have any reason to think that there's a problem, ride it. Changing the oil couldn't hurt, air up the tires to 42F/48R.

Thanks. Taking it for the 72K checkup on Saturday. Don't want to do it myself for the first time.

Re: Wondering if it sounds right

Sounds like mine for the most part. I have a 2000, which for the most part is exactly the same as yours. In cooler weather, I do run regular gas, and in warmer weather I run mid grade unless I am riding two up, and I use Premium. The smoking on start up is very normal.
