Great ride today
I'm fairly new the K1200LT family having only owned my bike for a couple months now. I removed one of the mirrors to see if it had a safety strap on. It does, so that's one less chore for me. I installed the PIAA lights under the fairing, and that's pretty much where it's at.
I live NW of Denver, so we have a lot of choices of twisties or straight.
I buckled on all my atgatt on and took off. Temps down in Den were low 70's. Took off up Highway 285 and had a ball. Drove up to 10k ft where temps dropped to 45. No big deal with the right clothes. I ended up putting 215 miles on her. Not a lot compared to many on here, but I'm still getting a feel for her.
I do know I need to invest in a radar detector. Fortunately for me the gentleman that stopped me only wanted to chat about speeds and what an elk might do to my bike if I were to hit one. I didn't say anything, but the elk wouldn't fair to well either being hit by an 800 lb plus bike at 60/65. I got away with a warning today. So it didn't screw up a great ride. Info on a good radar detector? I'll search the archives.
This bike performs much better than I could have hoped. It's an 07 with 32K and I couldn't have asked for better. I put beads with a sheepskin cover on my seat, and I'm not sure that's the cure yet. My speedometer is off by the usual 5 MPH as shown on my GPS.
This forum has been great with info and I'm happy to have found it. It's prepared me well and told me what to look for, both negative and positive.
Just wanted to share my experience.
