The people who you are asking about FD failures do not include those that sold their LTs.
If you scan posts by CharlieVT you'll get measurements he makes.
Note how many times the FDs he gets have incorrect shimming.
He recently took my FD apart, 28K on it, and found traces that the bearing race had uneven ware. Plus, when he took it apart and measured the shims they were thicker than any he has used on a FD rebuild.
Even though it may not be likely that your FD goes, consider having a plan B if you roam far from home.
Some people carry a replacement bearing that can be installed so that they can ride home and then have the FD properly rebuilt.
My plan B for my ride home from ME to Tucson was to have a FD that was properly rebuilt installed. I figure it was a lot cheaper than having to deal with an FD failure en-route.
