Scala Rider Headset and LT Audio System?

I just got my 2005 K1200LT (with <4800 miles on it) a couple of weeks ago.I'm new to the BMW audio system. Mine has the CD player, Radio, 6-Disc Changer, Navigator, and CB radio.

I've seen an adapter that plugs into the helmet cable port and also has a 3.5mm single pin stereo socket to send audio to and input jack on a headset. Does anyone know if this will work with the audio input socket on a Sacala Rider? And if so, will it work just like a headset that's made for the BMW system?

As you can tell, I'm not well versed in electronics. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

On the BMW system the jacks you may be referring to is an Aux jack for plugging in an audio device such as an MP3 player, GPS audio or radar audio. As far as I know there are no audio out jacks to plug into a headset other than the BMW 6-pin. To make use of the BMW system, I recommend you contact J&M who sells high quality headsets and the lower cord to connect between the headset and the BMW connection on the bike.

The Scala has a 3.5 jack plug in that you can try it. Not sure if the volume will be compatible.

I have a Scala G4. I would forget about all the on board systems on your bike and just use the Scala. Load all your music on a MP3 device and either connect through the 3.5 jack on the Scala or use Bluetooth. (Bluetooth preferable) Remove the CD player to make more luggage room.

The Scala has everything, FM radio, MP3, intercom and Bluetooth cell phone connect.

If you think about the decibel level you experience using the bike's speakers at 65mph vs the headset in your helmet there is no comparison in quality of sound and the negative effect on your ears.

I use the bike speakers in town to run to the post office if I don't have the Scala.

Thanks. Just one man's opinion.

Thanks for the advice. I have both the G4 and the Q2 and use them both. I use my iPhone and iPod wirelessly to the headset and both work perfectly. The passenger intercom and bike-to-bike communications are also superb. The FM radio? Not so great.

I was just wondering if I could route the BMW radio and GPS through the Scala Rider headset using the EdSets adapter I pictured. And I will take your advice and lose the CD changer to gain some more luggage capacity. Is there a market for these units?

My Scala Rider headsets should be arriving tomorrow. I'm interested to know what you get worked out. It would be nice to be able to listen to the bikes radio while out and about, but I have an Iphone and will use the bluetooth to access things if that's the only option.
Where did you buy the EdSets adapter from?

Jeff
