Can you get your LT up to red line in 5th gear? All I can get is 5200rpm.

Re: Rpm

I have never tried but on my 99 that would be around 125mph and that is what BMW claimed for the LT. I would guess that is about right then.

Re: Rpm

Windshield all the way down, top trunk in the garage, slightly down hill?

BTW, how fast were you going at 5200 rpm? I wonder if you could actually go faster in 4th at red line than 5th at 5200.

Re: Rpm

On a side note and only slightly related, I was able to only get 112mph out of my '77 R100RS where BMW said it would top out at 118mph. Further investigation revealed a rider weight of 160 Lbs. Not to infer anything, just sayin'.

Re: Rpm

No, will not go to redline in 5th.

Mine does a little better than 5200. Light poles go by at a rapid rate.

Re: Rpm

IIRC, on mine I think 5k = exactly an indicated 100mph, I have seen mine show an indicated 118mph while still moving up but I stopped it at that point and didn't look at the tach. By calculation I guess 20mph would equal 1000 rpm so the 118 would be real close to 6k.

Very few vehicles will pull high gear to redline. And many vehicles will actually achieve top speed one gear down from top gear.

Yes, can definitely go faster in 4th and it will go to the red line. In 5th at 5200 I am showing about 120.

Re: Rpm

Ok, so the general consensus seems to be it can't go to the redline in 5th. Too bad.

Slap it off the rev limiter in fourth and upshift. Results vary.

If you can wait till next monday.... I'll give it a whirl !

I clocked mine at 130mph back in May over in France.... A group of us had a Normandy weekend but we found a 5km straight road and we all went for it(middle aged children)

Re: Rpm

I think the LT is speed limiited to 125 or 6 to four MPH.... ( let's see who get's that reference)

So the computer is going to stop it at that point...

I never was that interested in dying on a motorcycle so I never found out how fast mine would go...

But I think 125 is all BMW will let you have...On the LT anyway...I think most of their bikes are this way.. With a few exceptions...

Re: Rpm

I've had mine up to 123 mph on the GPS with the ten % speedo error my LT has it is 135 mph on the needle. The bike was moving around too much to look at the tach.

Re: Rpm

Took mine out today to confirm the numbers I posted above, and yes on mine 100mph is right on 5000rpm and 50mph is touching the left edge of the 2500 mark. This is indicated and my speedo has about a 9-9.5% over report. So as stated in my earlier post, 1000 rpm is worth an indicated 20mph in 5th gear or 160 mph at redline. Don't think its gonna make it to redline, redline is probably an actual 145mph.

Re: Rpm

5200 RPM should be an actual speed of 104 MPH.

And I got it too.........

Re: Rpm

Other than European highways and U.S. track days, where does one try out such high speeds?

I took mine to 115 mph a couple of times in its first year, on a nearby four-mile straightaway country road, with no idea what the tach was reading. I was wondering what a deer would do to me after that, so never really went that fast since then. I try to hit 80 on my favorite road just before I get home every day, and I've touched 100 mph once or twice out west.
