Thumbs up The ride is on... Pittsburgh to L.A.

Taking the red eye to Pittsburgh tonight.
Mike will pick me up at PIT and take me to the bike. New tires are being mounted as we speak, BT020s because of potential wet weather along the way.
The forecast for tomorrow morning is promising. First leg will take me to Chattanooga where I'll be meeting Brett and spend the night.

The next day will take me to Dallas where I am to join a local "meet & greet" and meet Bo. Second night will be in Dallas.
The rest of the route will be through El Paso, Arizona, then Blythe, and finally home (Valley Village) in CA.
If all goes according to plan it will be a vacation. If it doesn't go according to plan it will be an adventure!
I am looking forward to meeting a bunch of nice people from this forum!!!

That is the best attitude you can have on a trip! Pretty much summed up all my trips, even the ones that ended in disaster.

As I often tell people, I have 120,000 plus miles on LTs, loved all but a few seconds of it!

Just got off the Ninja from a 140-mile ride. If I can ride in these temps on a Ninja...the LT should be a piece of cake. Of course, I did have the heated gear going. Supposed to be even warmer tomorrow!

The weather in Dallas on Thursday is supposed toi be high around 70 and low around 49. 20% chance of rain. The issue is going to be the wind. About 25 mph with higher gusts. Unfortunately, it looks like you are going to be facing a headwind or quartering headwind out of the WSW at least to Tucson. Looks like it will be blowing 15 to 20 from Dallas to Tucson on Thursday and Friday. Also looks like around 20% chance of rain during that time. It's not a real big deal but, it would be a little less tiring with a tailwind or, no wind.

Take care and ride safe. Hope to see you on Thursday.

Hey, Bo - glad the wx is gonna be good in Big D. If he wuz comin' thru Boerne, he'd be buckin' 25-30 mph steady winds, with gusts to 46.

I got new-to-me patio furniture this morning!! Perfect match to the set my westside neighbor 'used' to have!!

Ride safe, Zippy.

Hi Dick, flying patio furniture seems to be common in TX, last year about this time my patio table went swimming after diving through the leaf cover. Now the table is anchored to the ground with one of those dog stake things. The wind it kicking up pretty good up hear too, but it is supposed to die down later today. I have always (50 years anyway) wanted to know is it "burney" or "borney"?

I just picked up on this thread. While Zippy might not get this message one of you guys who will see him can let him know I would like to buy him lunch or coffee on his way through Odessa on I-20. I figure he will be ready for a break in his run from D/FW to El Paso. cell phone is 432.559.2214. I can meet him on my "new" ride.

I just spoke with Gilles and he was fueling up between Monroe and Shreveport La. He hads to hold up for an hour in Jackson due to the tornado sirens going off. He may already be back on the bike. Time I spoke with him was 5:45 EST.

Thumbs up It is an adventure

I made it to Bo's place in Dallas.

Mike in Pittsburgh, Thanks for all your help, the ride from the airport and to UPS.
Brett, you are extremely good at giving directions. Every traffic light, 4-way stop, and store was exactly where you said it would be. I got on the right highway to Dallas this morning without a hitch! Thank you also for your great hospitality!!!

The rain storm.tornado watch in Jackson was something else. Torrential rain with 80 mph winds... Listening to the Tornado warning sirens was like watching a Sci-fi movie. People were running all over the place. I tried to seek shelter, and a nice cup of Joe at Starbucks, but much to my surprise they closed the store due to bad weather, but the drive-through was kept open!!! That did me a lot of good!!! Fortunately Taco Ball next door was open.
I called Kathy who got on the web and found out that the "system" was centered in Central Mississippi where I was but was not very large. So I waited until the rain eased up a bit and rode on. Sure enough the weather cleared up after about 10 miles. Another 20 miles and I found the sun!!!
I'll get on the road again on Friday morning after breakfast in town with Bo.

Lynn, I would like to take you up on your offer. My cell is 818-480-2102

Recipe for a little ride:
- buy a bike on the opposite coast
- take the red eye to opposite coast (purchase ticket 7 days ahead)
- call in sick for couple of days
- add a vacation day to the mix
- make new friends on the way back home
- repeat every few years

Good luck, Gilles!

Gilles just got well fed on barbeque and should be clearing Odessa about right now, about 4 PM CST. He is facing a stiff wind right in the nose as he continues west to El Paso. He said he would try to reach AZ before calling it a day. That will be a long day. We had a good visit over lunch--I must ride to LA now for a payback!

Zippy, Phoenix has been without rain for about 140 days, but your journey seems to have pleased the rain gods, and tomorrow you'll be rewarded with more wind, and rain with the snow level dipping to below 5,000 feet. This shouldn't be a problem along most of I-10 but may put a crinkle in your shorts at Texas Canyon Summit between Willcox and Benson AZ. Ride safe.

Lynn, I thought of you when riding by Beaumont. You are on for a BBQ in CA. Just come on down buddy!!!
I facer strong winds all the way to California, experienced dust storms in AZ where the sky turned brown with a near zero visibility, rain storm right after that (with a hint of hail), and snow and slush on I-10 past Palms Springs where the the 10 and 60 freeways meet. Pretty unbelievable!!!
I also learned that my gear was for the most part waterproof. After riding in heavy rain for a few hours my fingers got a little wet (heated grips on high made sure they never got cold) and my feet got a little damp. I guess that only rubber would have been totally waterproof in that weather!
The Gerbing gear is a fantastic invention!!! I never got cold on that trip! Ever!
I made home at 8:00 p.m. last night, took a hot bath and a stiff drink!
Life is good!!!
After over 2500 miles in 4 days I now know why LD riders get a custom seat. Ouch!!!
The LT is a fantastic miles eating machine!!! Recommend it top your friends!
My low beam burnt out on the last day and I finished the trip with the PIAAs without a hitch.

Funny thing I noticed... I saw more Harleys in trailers than on the road...!
I'll post more details later... Gotta go back to sleep...

That would have been cool!
I rode alone all the way, except for about 50 miles before entering Palm Springs where a fellow rider on a GS Adventure 1200 and I shared a lot of rain until I had to stop for gas.
Saw a lot of Harleys on trailers though...!
