Re: Looking for first LT...what are your opinons?
Richard, I found the ad on Craigslist but unfortunately there are no pics. If you are interested in considering the bike contact the seller and get the following info:
Mileage: High mileage is OK on these things as long as they are maintained
Service record: Did he do his own maintenance or was it done by the dealer. If the dealer did the service you can get the records from their computer. You will need the serial number to get the service records.
Brake pads are no big deal to replace on an '03. Easier than doing it on a car and non-BMW pads are less expensive, perform as well and don't make noise. You want to know if there is any damage to the brake rotors as they are EXPENSIVE! You might want to ask him if the rear rotor is making noise like a cow bell. Not a safety issue but annoying.
The fall over damage, (slight scratches in the rear right bumper), is certainly no big deal. And reasonable to have occurred considering where it's at. The wind doth blow over there. And blow and blow and blow and blow. And hard!
The 12,000 mile service is easy to do and if you do it yourself it's very inexpensive. Depending on the mileage, and the verifiable service history you might want to do a 24,000 mile service just to make sure everything is up to snuff. The air filter, especially considering where it is located, should be checked. This is pretty major dis-assembly in order to get to it but certainly can be done by the owner.
$4400 for a running '03 LT is a very good price.
PM me if you want to touch bases or if you want to see one torn down for fuel/air filter replacement. Mine is on the lift as I write. I'm also taking the opportunity to do a few extra things on it while it is down.
If you are interested you had better jump on it. The price is very good. I would love to go with you to look at it but I work at SWMC and I'm scheduled to work four 12 hour shifts in a row starting tonight. I will do what I can to evaluate the bike including talking to the owner if it would help. I have relatives who live there who could at least verify how it looks and that it does in fact exist.
