Re: Bike-less in Tampa
I've been asked by several people through PM, what I sold the bike for and what came with it. I listed it quickly on Craig's list and Cycle trader without spending a lot of time on pictures or descriptions, thinking that if there was someone locally that was interested, it would be an easier sale. I was pretty surprised by the number of inquiries and the first person to call me, ended up buying the bike.
I took several quick pictures in the driveway and posted them. The ads were free and took minutes to set up. I sold everything that was on the bike, Remus muffler, Auto-com Intercom, GPS and a few other accessories, except for the BMW cup holder. I'll put that on the forum classified.
I searched around before I came up with a selling price and after looking at this forum's classified, Cycle trader and some of the "official" price determiners that the dealers use, felt that if I ended up with anything above $6,000 I would be lucky.
My 02 had almost 51,000 miles and to the general public, that's a lot of miles. I listed the bike for $6,975 and sold it for $6,600. I might have tried for more money, but I've seen too many listed for a "wish" price that in my opinion is unrealistic. I probably spent more time cleaning and polishing my bike, right before the sale than I have ever done in the past. It sparkled...
I bought the bike with 1060 miles from the local dealer and paid $14,500 in 03. It was an 02 that was titled 12/30/02 so it was actually 8 1/2 years old. Cost me about $1,000 a year to ride, + accessories added + service etc. Probbaly more like $2,000 a year.
I didn't want to mess with a long distance sale, and that's why I didn't list it here initially. If nothing came from the two local feeler ads, that's what I would have done.
The bike is now up in north Florida and seems to have a good home. I do have visitation rights!
