Bike-less in Tampa

I really didn't think that I would sell her so quickly, but now my K1200LT has a new home. Thinking that it might take a month or so, I put an ad in the Cycle Trader and Craig's list less than two weeks ago and now she is gone! The new owner of the bike just left me with an empty garage.

I'm really starting to have sellers remorse! I owned the bike for about 8 years, longer than any I've ever owned.

Now I have to wait for the 385th Grey K1600GTL to arrive.

I know the feeling... Watching someone else ride away on your bike. Just keep reminding yourself (other than, "Damn, it sold so quickly.. was the price too low??") that you'll soon have one sweet new ride!

Did you dig up some of the rusty Mason jars in the back 40? When did you place the order? If you posted the details of the order, I missed it. I don't normally check the K1600 section due to bike envy.

Dan, you scurvy dog! Guess this means no purty Toscana Green skins for old Loren! Congrats on selling so quickly. So when are you REALLY expecting your K1600 to be delivered?

I really don't know. I'm number 385 and that is anyone's guess. If it really looks like it might be DECEMBER, well than, I'll probably pick up something in the mean time. Dealer said most likely though, some time in early June.

That is good news Dano, ( I guess). Looks like LTs don't last long on the market. I predicted that they would be very popular since they aren't made anymore. Maybe you shoulda put a higher price on it

Dan, no offense Sir, but I don't understand why anyone would sell the bike that they own before the new one comes in.

Maybe he got a couple thousand more than he thought he'd get. On the other hand, you could put your name in on a new Super Tenere! I hear theyy are to arrive in November

I'm thinking about buying on the end of the year, ready for something different

Re: Bike-less in Tampa

I think Dano, and katnapinn, were both pretty smart to list their LTs now, and sell 'em before more and more used LTs come on the market. Just since early May, and just on this forum's classified pages, there have been 11 or 12 LTs listed for sale. Doesn't count Cycle Trader, eBay, Craigslist, etc. I'd prolly have to give ole Toad away, if we decided to part company this year.

Would you give them a discount for having to figure out how to get it off the lift Dick?

Jenna hasn't let us down, and as a reward I'm not selling.
When she does, ( notice I didn't say if ) guess I'll just jump in there and fix her.
Many many good memories and many many more to come.
I have hi regard for the new 1600's but how am I going to have

Re: Bike-less in Tampa

I've been asked by several people through PM, what I sold the bike for and what came with it. I listed it quickly on Craig's list and Cycle trader without spending a lot of time on pictures or descriptions, thinking that if there was someone locally that was interested, it would be an easier sale. I was pretty surprised by the number of inquiries and the first person to call me, ended up buying the bike.

I took several quick pictures in the driveway and posted them. The ads were free and took minutes to set up. I sold everything that was on the bike, Remus muffler, Auto-com Intercom, GPS and a few other accessories, except for the BMW cup holder. I'll put that on the forum classified.

I searched around before I came up with a selling price and after looking at this forum's classified, Cycle trader and some of the "official" price determiners that the dealers use, felt that if I ended up with anything above $6,000 I would be lucky.

My 02 had almost 51,000 miles and to the general public, that's a lot of miles. I listed the bike for $6,975 and sold it for $6,600. I might have tried for more money, but I've seen too many listed for a "wish" price that in my opinion is unrealistic. I probably spent more time cleaning and polishing my bike, right before the sale than I have ever done in the past. It sparkled...

I bought the bike with 1060 miles from the local dealer and paid $14,500 in 03. It was an 02 that was titled 12/30/02 so it was actually 8 1/2 years old. Cost me about $1,000 a year to ride, + accessories added + service etc. Probbaly more like $2,000 a year.

I didn't want to mess with a long distance sale, and that's why I didn't list it here initially. If nothing came from the two local feeler ads, that's what I would have done.

The bike is now up in north Florida and seems to have a good home. I do have visitation rights!

Dan,

you may have sold the bike, but you will never part from it. You loved that bike and that was evident in all of your posts.
Best of luck with new bike.

Thanks - You are right about that. It really was a great bike, that never let me down. I let her down a few times though! Just gently.....

The think that was so different about the K1200LT was the fact that it just simply made me smile. I've owned lots of others that never felt as good. Great to ride, look at and listen to, but just not the same. It was such a sweat ride that felt so good.

It did take a while to really learn how to ride her and feel like I had control, but once you hit that sweat spot, it just felt like you were just a part of her. If you have ever ridden a bicycle with clip on peddles, it is like that same feeling.

Looking forward to getting into that same zen with the new K1600GTL. I'm sure that it to will be an acquired taste and might take a while to develop, but if it is anything like the K1200LT, I can't wait.
