cutting out under acceleration...

just got the bike back together after a long list of mods/maintenance
Including canister removal, new spark plugs, new fuel filter and quick connects...

On hard acceleration at say, 2nd gear at around 4500rpm, the bike cuts out and cuts back in very abruptly... feels like the key was turn on and off...

Any ideas on what to check for?

I checked for vacuum leaks.... everything seems good... under normal acceleration and idle it seems good... but pulling away and shifting through the gears quick it cuts out... first time it happened I could hear the driveshaft bang...
I learned quick to pull in the clutch...

you think maybe I got a bad fuel filter??
seems electrical though....

Re: cutting out under acceleration...

I did have the airbox/boots off... and installed new clamps....
they don't seem to be leaking at idle.... or even raising the rpms while on the centerstand...

maybe somehow the boots are leaking while going though the gears somehow?

Re: cutting out under acceleration...

That is exactly what mine did after my clutch job. What I found was one of the fuel injector connectors was on but NOT locked ON. I could tug it loose. Snapped it back on and no more problem. Hope you are as lucky.

Re: cutting out under acceleration...

I think I found the problem...
Sidestand switch.

I removed the switch and hotwired it.... It seems to have fixed the problem...

It is raining cats & dogs over here, so I put the bike on the centerstand (on the bike lift) and strapped the front end down and ran through the gears.....

seems to pull great with no cutting out..

the 3 pin connector at the top of the switch got pulled during tranny removal... at the time, I pushed the pins back in, thinking it would be fine... and it was,,,,,
until it started bouncing around while riding..

I have another switch coming to replace it. (thanks to Ebay)

Re: cutting out under acceleration...

Just took her around the block...
she runs like a scalded squirrel....

Hid light is obviously brighter even in daylight....
hyperpro shocks feel awesome.... it's like a new bike. might have to do a little fine tuning in the twisties...but so far they feel great with the settings Klause wrote down.

I left the top case off just to see what it felt like... a noticeable diff. for sure.

I love this bike.

John,

Looks great in the rain. Wondering what brand/kit you used for the HID upgrade?

I used the 35watt 4500K on the low beam only.

Re: cutting out under acceleration...

Mine does the same thing at around 8200 rpm. Back it off below 8000 and it runs fine!

Glad you got it back together.

I just recently upgraded my high beam to HID also. Wow! You can see a lot farther down the road, and from about 50 yards out it floods that area better also. Real nice out here in the flatlands with lots of deer.
