Does Anyone Know What Part This Is?

All:

Workers at my house found this part sitting in the driveway where I normally park the K1200LT. They thought it might be related to a cable on the bike, e.g. as in a brake cable. But I haven't identified anything as missing.

Assuming this is a BMW bike part, I'm wondering if any of you might know what this is?

Thanks, tom t

Re: Does Anyone Know What Part This Is?

I don't recall every seeing anything even close to that on an LT -- the ball studs that are in the shift lever linkage are much shorter than this. I vote not BMW.

Re: Does Anyone Know What Part This Is?

Were the workers using hydraulic equipment of any sort in this area. It looks to me like one of the pieces of a single handle four way hydraulic control on my loader tractor.

Mark/Ross:

Thanks for your replies. Still don't know.

Ross, they are using table saws and pneumatic equipment (as I do in my garage) ... pneumatic nail injectors, all kinds of saws, etc.

Mark ... I hope you're right. I figure it anyone would know it would be you.

Best, tom

The only thing remotely similar that I can think of are the mirror studs it is not one of those.

That does not look anything I have seen on a LT...
Can you share the dimensions for this? Is it solid or hollow?

IIRC, the feelers are integral; not separate screwed in parts.

And it's flux capacitor, and Hupmobile!

If you were in the northern climes, I would say it is traction aid (stud) from a snowmobile track. They are found quite often in the spring at intersections of highways and snowmobile trails in the north.

Re: Does Anyone Know What Part This Is?

I'm guessing a Clutch or Brake cable adjuster, size would be a tip-off.

These things are commonly used for Ikea type furniture assembly. See attached.

Maybe they fell off the rear sofa on the LT.

It's just a guess, but it reminds me of the fastener for the rear heat shield next to the swing arm. It screws onto the frame and then a loosely threaded part holds the shield on with 3 of these IIRC

Re: Does Anyone Know What Part This Is?

It looks like the adjuster for the rear brakes. It screws into the back of the brake peddle where the plunger that activates the brake is located.

Disagree -- no such beasty associated with the rear brake pedal or rear master cylinder:

The adjuster on the master (#3, below) is at the end of a long pushrod, not something short and with a sleeve, as in the OP's pic.

I have to concur with Hilton on this one. Good catch. I have had those off before and didn't think of it. Item 9

Re: Does Anyone Know What Part This Is?

My first reaction is that it isn't metric thread, so it isn't from the BMW. That would be my first test.
