2000 miles and one sore hinder

Did my first "long" weekend. Did little over 2000 miles from Friday to Sunday. Had to go from Wisconsin to Virginia to see my daughter go to prom. She took the plane, I got to take the bike.

The trip out was not too eventful, it was a rainy 5 hours, then once I hit the mountains, the reason I took the bike, it was dense fog, rain and night. This made for a little slow down. On the way back I got a hotel right at the beginning of the mountains so I start out Sunday trip back with morning air and twisties ahead. It took a long time to get out of the mountains, I kept finding more roads to go on till I looked at the GPS and it said I was going to get home at 01:00 in the morning. This would not make for a good night sleep having to get up at 5:30, so fun time over and time to hit the straight and narrow. The rest of the trip was very windy and hot. Someone ordered 85F and sunny. I had cold weather gear and ready for rain, not scorching heat in the north. Heading into the Twister party in midwest. The light show in the sky was very impressive, followed by the high winds blowing the bike all over the road.

All and all it was a good ride. I need to make some changes to the seat, it is still stock. Now my hind end is not happy.

After all the riding, I saw my daughter for 5 minutes, just in time to get a picture and they were off to diner.

What excuse have you used to spend some time on the road?

Re: 2000 miles and one sore hinder

Well I had a fun weekend too. Left after work on Thursday and rode 240 miles to Dallas to stay with my eldest daughter. Left there at 5:00am the next morning and rode 780 miles to Greenup, Illinois so I could go on the Moonshine Lunch Run on Saturday.

After that I headed 70 miles back down the road and picked up a used camper trailer that had been advertised on one of the other forums. On the way I went passed another LT rider. He exited at the same time as me so we had a chat for 20 minutes or so. Picked up the camper and rode 120 miles back down I44. I also stopped in St Louis and had a coffee with a friend from the BMW MOA.

I eventually stopped in a state park to test out the camper for the night. Worked out OK, but I need to do a few adjustments to get the mattress more comfortable. A couple in the next campsite helped out when my flashlight wouldn't work - they even fed me breakfast the next morning. Carried on I44 for a while but eventually turned south so I could ride route 7 through Arkansas all the way down to Hot Springs. At a gas station in Branson, I got speaking to an LT forum member who was in his RV heading to Galveston. Isn't it great all the people that you meet when you travel.

The LT handled the extra load really well although I did feel the trailer "push" a little on some of the corners where I was banked over. Arrived in Texarkana just as it was getting dark so the final 290 miles back home was at a slower pace watching out for deer and other hazards. I rode a total of 2120 miles. Made it home at 2:00am this morning but had to get up for work at 5:30am. I still have the stock seat, but I have the "beads". Doesn't completely solve the problem but it does help by letting more air flow around you.

Off to the Texas Hill Country next weekend, then back to Missouri for the "Bash in Branson" event the weekend after that. I'll be staying in hotels so I won't need the camper for those events, - maybe for the Roadrunner rally in Heber, AZ but definitely the MOA rally in Bloomsburg, PA. Its going to be a busy year.

Well, Karen was reading a book and said "the price of lobster goes down after labor day in maine."................."we could go for a ride and save money."
We were living in Eugene, Oregon at the time.......
We did, in fact pack up, she bought a plane ticket to Erie, PA (she was working at the time and couldn't take that much time off.)
I hit highway 2 along the Canadian border, picked her up in Erie, rode on to the Maine coast and before we left ate three shore dinners..........
Then down to Georgia to tell her sister the story and back to Eugene.
