Question Top case trunk central lock

While in Leesburg the top case would not unlock w/ the fob central locking system. The rest unlocked and locked. We went for a ride and I purposely went on bumpy roads to jar or bounce a wire about and it UNLOCKED. I just used the manual key until I got home and able to get to the bottom of it but it sounds like a loose connector or wire.
I'll start under the passenger seat and work to the trunk lock electro/mechanical actuator.
Any advice or experiences would be welcomed.

Thumbs up SOLVED Top case trunk central lock

Removing the passenger seat revealed the little connector plug had loosened just a tad not completing the circuit to the lock actuator.
Took longer to pull the seat than to diagnose & repair.

Re: Top case trunk central lock

Smokin,

I think I have the same problem. The panniers and the glove box lock centrally but the top case doesn't. Can you tell me where this connector is or provide a picture so I can give it a try?

Thanks, Todd.

Re: Top case trunk central lock

Remove rear seat and look right at the base of the top case. You will see a barrel connector. Right in front of that barrel connector is a small flat 2 pin connector snapped into a metal clip.

Re: Top case trunk central lock

Thanks John. I'll look for that. Hopefully the connection is just loose.

Re: Top case trunk central lock

Don't we wish all problems had an easy solution.
Good trouble-shooting Joe and John. I won't say I had a similar problem even though it could be related. Last year one of my side cases would not unlock with the fob. At the time I think I had used the key to lock and the fob to unlock. I tried the fob several times only to read later in my manual that there is a safety feature that prevents the rider from burning up those tiny motors in the locks. Hasn't happened since.

Re: Top case trunk central lock

My lesson learned for others reading this post:

My trunk would not lock a little over a year ago.

My solenoid was working...I could hear it.

My pins holding the locking arms had come out of the locking device on the bottom of the trunk.

This was my fault. I had just installed the trunk latch repair kit and my cotter pins holding the latch pins came loose.

Just another perspective.

I am glad that my trunk was unlocked when this happend....

Re: Top case trunk central lock

It worked!!! Now the top case will lock with everything else. All I did was disconnect and re-connect the 2-pin connector. It must have not been pushed in far enough before so it wasn't making proper contact.

Thanks everyone for the quick and helpful responses!!!

Todd

Re: Top case trunk central lock

I have a problem with my top box lock actuator. The solenoid and the actuator move back and forth when the buttons on the fob are pressed. The actuator pushes through the hole in the top box to the latch. There is another assembly on the latch itself. The actuator is supposed to push the assembly to lock the latch. It does this. It is also supposed to pull the assembly back to unlock the latch. It doesn't do this. I can open the latch by turning the key to 45 degree position and pressing the button. Once the latch is open, the assembly can be moved to the left to unlock the button.

The actuator is small diameter, but it appears to have a tapered (threaded?) end that fits into the latch assembly. I can't see it very well and there is very limited room. I can't tell how the things fit together, I just know they aren't "one" any longer. It looks like all the fasteners are rivets. Any ideas how to get the thing apart or fix it? Thanks in advance!

Re: Top case trunk central lock

Thanks, John. I'm going to stop by Dave's tomorrow afternoon. He said he'd never seen the central locking system mechanisms, but he still may be able to come up with something.

Re: Top case trunk central lock

Go to LT Trunk Latch dot com and download the instructions for the replacement latch handle. Be sure to select the "with CLS" version. You will see pictures of the offending linkage there. It can be fixed by someone with a small lathe and basic machining ability.
