LT Lagging

My '03 LT lags from a standing start, then catches up. Sorta like trying to start out in 2nd gear.
Any suggestions?

Since you have an 03....have you cut the brown wire?

In temps above 86F it is necessary to cut that wire in order to change the motronics mode.

If it isn't temp related, is your bike missing as you try to take off or just sluggish? Is this rpm related at low rpms?

Same starting happening to my '99 about a year ago. It is likely symptomatic of a slipping clutch. If hasn't started yet, it will soon start happening in 2nd as well as first, then eventually third, etc. There is ton of info here about LT clutch issues, the most prominent being contamination of the friction plate by oil seeping either from a failing hydraulic slave cylinder, or rear main seal on the crankshaft. When I replaced my clutch, the friction plate looked darn near new, but it had oil on it. That's why it starts slipping.

You'll find direction here on drilling a weep hole through your bell housing to allow main seal oil to escape, and another weep hole to be drilled adjacent to the slave cylinder to allow oil to escape rather than end up on the clutch. Do both of these and you'll know which is the immediate culprit. The slave cylinder is lot easier, and less expensive than the rear main seal. But as I am sure the more experienced folks here will tell you that the damage is already done to the clutch, so it will need to be replaced, and with that it is prudent to replacement the main seal since you're already in there that deep. I should also mention that the replacement main seal on these bikes is an upgrade from the original. In my case, the clutch had been replaced by the prior owner, but the original main seal was not, and that was the downfall for my bike.

My 07 started doing this also a couple of months ago. It seems worse once the engine warms up. I suspect it is related to use of E10 gasoline as this began shortly after the last local station to see real gasoline switched to the ethanol crap. I can't be sure, but I think the sluggishness off-idle and the loss of 2-3 MPG are both ethanol related.

Thank you all for the comments. I'll look at the brown wire and I don't think it's the clutch, but I can look at that too. This just started and was curious.
