I Did it!!!!!! New K1200LT

After being on the fence about waiting for the possibly New 1600 LT I decided to trade in my 1999 LT for a brand New one. I picked it up on 7/27..... with 47 miles...

You sir are no gentleman! Didn't your mama teach you not to gloat out loud in public!!!!!!??????

Congratulations. I'll bet you're gonna love it. How many miles did you have on your '99? Does it feel more sophisticated/refined than your '99?

Re: I Did it!!!!!! New K1200LT

... thanks sorry for gloating...... I just couldn't resist.... My old bike had 81,000.
Although I'm in the run in process I have put it into some mild corners and the bike handles about the same. I must admit at slower speeds it doesn't feel as top heavy as my old bike. Took the wife on a short trip and she fell in love with her seat. She noticed a big difference. As for being refined thats still to be decided. And hopefully after building the bike for 10 years hopefully the Henry Ford Shadow is gone for good. Color can you say steel gray metallic??? in a couple of years....

Congrats Eddy! I did something similar - sold my '03 and bought an '09. Although I do have a $500 deposit on the first K1600 from my dealer here, but depending on what BMW actually delivers, I'll then have to decide between them.

Hope you are enjoying the new ride!!!

Thanks again....I've been in the station the last 2 days.... the weather has been perfect for riding so I'm off tomorrow and plan on putting some easy breakin miles tomorrow..... It currently has 200 miles 400 to go be foe the first service.....
Question does anyone know what they do besides change the fluids in this service?

Hey Scott do you have Navigation on your bike? If so what unit III or IV and did you have any problems getting units since they aren't making the current LT?

Re: I Did it!!!!!! New K1200LT

Congrats--I got one back in February and have been loving it. I put 170 miles on her today. Met some friends for breakfast, we had a nice ride up to the mountains and was in work by 1030.

I tell my wife the LT is much cheaper than a therapist

Congratulations. You are the envy of everyone with an older bike. But we all know how great ours are and how much fun you'll be having with yours. And yes, I'll wait for the 2011 model, and probably a couple years after that to see reactions on this site. But meanwhile, I'll envy you.

Congratulations, the LT is @ the top of it's engineering curve, that's why one reason why I bought it.
I've owned a 2004 RT, 2006 new style KGT, and my current 2009 LT.
Every one of them I've red lined leaving the dealers lot.
I throw that easy break in shit out the door. Never used any noticeable oil on any of the bikes, all three of them have run awesome. These machines love to be flogged!
My son is with TFPD, every see how cops run their bikes? There's a reason, the bikes like it and sing to them.

The LT loves high revs!
I typically shift between 5-6K, when I'm around others.
But when I'm out fun running here in the desert, she gets red lined all the way up and oh my that brick motor has earned it's name.

Easy break in is for pussy motors IMO.

Ride safe, ride smart, you're invisible; NOT invincible.

Ahhh that new bike smell!!!
I'd say go with the Zumo and a good radar detector (V1 or Escort).

At one point I had bought my 05 LT and still had the 03 LT for sale. I rode both bikes on the same day and I could tell the difference in low speed handling; much less wobbly on the 05. I guess the rake angle difference on the 05 models and newer had that much of an impact.

thanks on the info - interesting how much of a difference that makes. when i test rode mine i asked if it was "normal" if at a stand still when you turn lock to lock that the front end moves up and down slightly. dealer said yep - but didnt mention the design change in newer models.

Re: I Did it!!!!!! New K1200LT

I'm seriously thinking of upgrading my 2000 that has 70k on it. I'm guessing the 1600 will have some typical first year bugs. I've been wishing that BMW would run some close out deals on the 1200 at the end of the model run. But I haven't seen any price relief in these parts. New ones here are running around 23k.

Thanks I now have 450 miles mostly twisty turns..... Yes I've noticed a big difference in low speed handling. I haven't noticed the 16 additional HP maybe they have tuned differently until it's broken in. The brakes are unbelievable ...can stop on a dime.... I'm glad I made the purchase.... Yes the rake angle makes a big difference. If you have a dealer near by with a 04 and up you should take a test drive.
