Shot her, skinned her and gutter her...

I though I would post a picture here so Steve could see how the Black Nightmare is coming along. Getting her ready for her next engine on Friday.

That's impressive, and scary, and a few other things. I'd hate to see my bike in that condition, but of course the outcome will be great!

It was really not that bad Howard. When I did my clutch job last year I realised I was only three wires and two bolts away from dropping the engine out anyway.

Okay, what do you think the total weight was? Just asking cause I'm thinking about leaving the truck at the Huntsville Airport and driving something more efficient to go get the new motor and wondering if I'd be able to swap it between the two vehicles without any assistance?

Only 'til she's up and running Dave. When we pulled the head and found the piston, that's when the nightmare began. Hopefully over by the weekend.

Just tilted it up on an old bathroom scale - looks to be about 140- 150. I would not be able to lift it from a trunk by myself.

Re: Shot her, skinned her and gutter her...

Dragon Fly lives again with a Red Rover beating heart. Steve arrived last night with the Red Rover's old engine about 8:50 pm from Dallas. This afternoon right after dinner he took her out for a semi nude test spin around the neighborhood. A balance has returned to the Force.

See Howard, it wasn't that bad.

From this ....

One Happy Camper

Ran a couple of quick errands on the bike yesterday. Had to make a trip to the chiropractor and to the election office this morning. Then I headed out for an hour's jaunt just to see how she runs.

The old whistle/hum that was in the original motor before I crashed the first bike was still there. Engine pulled strong from dead stop to red line and the rev limiter. Engine temps just below midway line. I had put 245 miles on the previous tank of gas and motor with the BC showing 32.5MPG before leaving the house this morning. The bike now sits with 313 miles on the odometer, the fuel light just coming on and the BC showing 39.6MPG without a reset.

We'll fill her up with fresh gas next time out with a full bottle of injector cleaner. Then we do the gas mileage the real way, (there is an app for that).

But as of today, I'm on happy camper.

On His Ride,
Steve

One thing I thougth of was a temperature check of each of the headers after that first run. I had a pyrometer and could have done it. That would tell if #3 was running lean, it would be hotter. Could have been the original issue. But even if it was it would take quite a while to do new damage. Worth doing someday.

I've got an infra red thermometer, will that work or will I just get a combined header reading? Or do I need to make a ride over this weekend and visit while you work over CB550F's ride?
