Broke Down at Redmond Rally Site

My bike is stuck and the shift linkage is probably broken. The neutral light is on and
the bike will not go into gear and will not start. Anyone here with a spare linkage? Any one know enough about this (usually common) problem to give my bike a quick look?

Re: Broke Down at Redmond Rally Site

if you're looking for spare linkage for an LT, I have some. I'm about 12 miles from Redmond. Let me know if you need what I have. You'll also need to let me know if you have the tools.

Check your REVERSER knob, if turned it locks out most of the issues your having

Re: Broke Down at Redmond Rally Site

A broken shift linkage will not keep the engine from starting if the bike is in neutral.

If the shift lever is still in the normal position and hasn't dropped to about the 7 o'clock position then the linkage isn't broken.

I second the reverser knob suggestion.

You said he's up and running.
Dave thought you were saying your bike was up and running and you were refering to it as HE as opposed to a SHE, but you were talking about the other David being up and running.

Ya know Hans, I have to say that it really did feel good to be able to help someone out of a bind, no matter how small. And it's a small price to pay for all I've gained here. Except, of course, having to read about dyna beads over and over...and over.

Hey Frank, glad you were able to lend a helping hand. Like Hans said, that is what this site is all about! Meanwhile, the guys (including this guy) are curious just what was the fix for the delima the guy was in?
