Rattle when slowing down or shifting

I am looking at buying my first K1200Lt It is a used bike with 64,000 miles on it. When I test drove it I noticed some rattling noise when shifting down and also at stand still at a stop sign. The owner says it is fairing noise but I was curious if any one has a opinion
Thanks for any info.
Posting this brought me to links to simalr problems.
This is also my first time on a forum. Hopefully I will find my way around in one.
Sorry for the premature post.

Re: Rattle when slowing down or shifting

Very common to have fairing rattles ... my 2K does it up front between the upper fairing and lowers just forward of the tip over guards.
Small daub or RTV or Goop in the gap between quiets it right up.

mine rattles too, until I get the stereo crankin in my headset.....no more rattles...I think it actually sounds more like buzzing...it is what it is..love riding it.

Re: Rattle when slowing down or shifting

a rattle at idle is normal it is to do with the gearing on the alternator (I think) one of em has straight cut gears, at idle pull on the hand brake to make it work, if the rattle gets louder its normal
