Maintenance Schedule

I was looking at the maintenance schedule for my 99 LT and it said that the timing chain guide needed to be replaced at 26,000 miles. Is this true? How many miles can I go without doing this. I know on a car you can go for hundreds of thousands of mile before replacing the timing chain guides.

Thanks for the input,

Curtis Traylor

Re: Maintenance Schedule

I asked the same question last year and was told ( by a site old timer) that most wait until @ 100,000 to change the chain guides. But I was also told to check them for wear and cracking every 12,000 while doing a valve clearance inspection.

Re: Maintenance Schedule

The official requirement from BMW is 36,000 miles (60,000 km). They will show a little wear but I know of no one who has actually NEEDED to change them.

Re: Maintenance Schedule

What J.Z. said.. I'm not sure I've ever heard of anyone actually needing one. But several have replaced them while they were in there because they felt sorry for them or something.

Don't worry about that one....
