Shake down ride

I took delivery of my 2000 K1200LT officially on Friday and took her out for a drive today. The last owner purchased in Feb 09, rode here for 600 miles and I purchsaed on May 10. Total miles ~49K.

150 miles some interstate, some city traffic and some back roads.

What a great ride The seat high it a little high for my stubby legs and she is top heavy, but outside of that she is a pleasure to ride.

Lots of power, stereo is good, lots of fun to ride.

Glad I made the purchase.

I have plenty of wires under the seat yet to be identified, a CB Radio to figure out, an intercom to figure out, other connectors and such to understand and maybe a connection for an ipod to the non existint CD player.

I look forward to learning and eventually being helpful to my fellow members.

Re: Shake down ride

Welcome to the asylum.
I've had my 2001 LT since August of 2000.
It has almost 110K miles and still going strong.
There's a treasure trove of lessons learned on this website.
Explore and learn from the mistakes of others so you can avoid them.

It can be a beast at low speeds when you're still getting used to the bike.
It does go away with training and practice.

Always stop with your front tire pointing straight ahead.
When you start from the stop, keep your revs up, ease out the clutch, move forward, then make the turn.
That way, if you choke the engine and it stops,
you're still upright and you won't go down in the direction of the turn.
If it starts to go down, step away and let it go.
Google youtube for picking up a dropped LT.
It's really not that hard. Ask me how I know.....

Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine.
It's been a great relationship.

Safe travels.

Re: Shake down ride

Welcome! LT_Pilot gave you great advice. Gotta be a little careful at very low speed to stopped. She do like to lay down. One more (ok a couple) piece of advice. When operating at a snails pace be sure to lay off the front brake while turning and keep your eyes on where you want to end up. If you watch the road in front of you it will turn in and fall over. If you watch the point where you want to end up you will be pleasantly surprised how well it handles at low speeds.

Be careful out there!

Re: Shake down ride

Paul,

As I mentioned in the PM, I'm right around the corner (or two) from you. Wife and I went down to Bok Tower this morning. Well, the ride home was, let's say, very exciting in the biblical rain and lightning.

If you are in town and interested, tomorrow is the Sunday morning SpaceCoast BMW riders ride. Think most of the gear will be more-or-less dry by morning.

Re: Shake down ride

Jon,

Would love to join ya, but Sunday we are doing the beach with the kids and friends.

I look froward to another opportunity at another time.
