Question What year LT to buy??

I have been riding since 1970. (with some time off) My latest bike is a 2004 R1150RT/P. It is a great ride. I am a big guy, and the BMW's actually are close to fitting me. I have test ridden several LT's, and I want one! I was looking for an LT when this great RT dropped in my lap. No regrets, but an LT is still on my wish list. I have dickered on a couple, but no luck yet.
My question, What is a good year to look for? Is there a year(s) to avoid? Suggestions?
Thanks for the time!

Re: What year LT to buy??

I bought an '03 on ebay, love it...but wish I had an electric center stand. They weren't out in '03. Don't know if they came out in '04 or '05 but they're nice features. right now I saw a dozen LT's on ebay with decent prices (?) and low mileages. But whatever year you buy you'll enjoy it immensely.

like the judge says they are all the same 04 I think was the first with hydraulic centerstand plus a couple more ponies, but really they are all the same to ride just a big sportsbike except you got the comfort as well, I have had mine 8years now done 100,000km only had routine services and done it all myself after warranty period easy to work on after removal of panels. so by the one you can afford you will love to ride it good luck

Re: What year LT to buy??

I say an 05 or newer if money permits. BMW made a very important change in steering geometry that makes the bike much easier to handle at low speeds. Additionally they narrowed the drivers seat so it is easier to get your feet flat on the ground. These small changes made a big difference.

I had an 01 and an 03 and the 05 I recently bought is a whole different machine to ride, much, much easier to handle. I dumped my other two at low speeds with my wife on board and loaded which is much more embarrassing than dangerous.

Ride both and make up your mind. Once at speed they are both fine. This top heavy handling of per 05's is one reason so many like the Goldwing or Harley over the BMW LT. The change in 05 leveled the playing field quite a bit.

Re: What year LT to buy??

There is a nice selection of LT's available in the Phoenix area. Check out craigslist.
One thing to think about is the later model ComSystem (2002 and newer?) if you ride two up.

Good luck!
