Fuel Shutoff for Compression Test

I am burning about a quart of oil per thousand miles on my 2001 LT (88K miles). So I thought a compression test would be in order to get a sense if one of the cylinders was problematic.

In order to stop fuel entry during the test, Clymer (pg 62) recommends disconnecting the electrical connector at the fuel pump. Would I be able to achieve the same thing by removing Fuse #4 (Fuel Pump, diagnosis connector and Motronic)?

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if the Motronic is necessary to activate the starter relay to crank her .....
