I've got at '05 LT and am looking at a new custom seat. I'm considering the Russell and Rick's Custom Seats, Seattle(per recent ON article). Please share your insight, I need help.

Thanks much,

Re: Please Help...Custom Seat

Russell..Best seat I ever had....
And although I've never owned one, You might want to give our own Ronnie K Miller a look..

His Kontour seats are supposed to be the fashizzle ass well...

Re: Please Help...Custom Seat

I use a corbin seat for myself and the SO. We just finished a 1500 mile trip and we put in 500 mile days, with no squirming or butt burning. I also had one on my HD ultra classic and got similiar results. HIghly recommend

Re: Please Help...Custom Seat

I recently purchased a Kontour seat for my 05 LT, and trust me, it makes all the difference on the longer rides.

Re: Please Help...Custom Seat

It's actually Rich's custom seats, not Rick's. I have one, it was custom fitted for me and I'm over the top satisfied with Rich's work.

The bonus...ride to his shop and you get some outstanding PNW riding in the deal. What could be better?

Re: Please Help...Custom Seat

Russel here and love it.

Got the heavy suspension and it took a bit to break in, but it fits like a glove now.

I have a Corbin Low with Backrest and was what I used for about 5,000 miles or so. I will let it go reasonably. Nice seat and with the low it makes flat footing very easy at 5' 10". However the shape of my butt and the Corbin shape differed. I need the wings of the Russel for full support. It differed from any other Corbin I had on other bikes as they were always my first choice.

I also hear good things on Ron's seats and his fabrics are supposed to be second to none.

Again another choice to make. I like leather seats, others don't. I know how to care for leather and it lasts a long time under my care. My seat is water proof so in the rain a old towel to dry it off and sit down and ride, no wet butt.

And no matter what seat, a sheepskin, or beads, or gel, or air hawk will give you a different feel after many hours in the saddle. Just raising your self off the seat an inch or two changes you body position enough to take a "set" in a different position, changing pressure points. At least it helps me.

Re: Please Help...Custom Seat

It's too personal to make the call for you. My bike had Corbin on it when I bought it. Hated it from day one. Had a Corbin on the FZ1, hated it from day one. Son-in-law, however, loved the Corbin on his FZ1 ( I gave him mine ), and put Corbin on his FJR, and loves it.
I replaced the Corbin on my LT with the BMW plush cushy stock one, and hated it after about 100 miles.
Ordered Russell, and didn't notice how much I like it until about 1000 miles into a ride and realized that my butt didn't hurt at all.
So, if'n you got a butt like me, get a Russell. If'n you got a butt like my son-in-law, get Corbin. Trust me here, you want a butt like mine
No Lee, there will be no photos to follow

Re: Please Help...Custom Seat

Frank, for once I am glad not to see a photo in this thread

However most of the custom seat makers do ask for a picture of you sitting on the bike from various positions. You can do it also to see what kind of seat your butt needs, versus what your eye tells you the butt needs.

Just go to one of their sites, follow the picture process, and then look at your seating position, and what your butt looks like on the current seat. It will give you an idea of what you may need to be happy.

Chaps may make your ass look big, but a correct fitting seat will not

And besides Frank our very own "metal man" gave me my photo fix with the LT latch manufacturing process

Re: Please Help...Custom Seat

You may want to check with some of your local upholstery shops. I had very good luck reconfiguring a seat for a Kawa ZZR1200 with a local shop. New high density foam shaped for rider and passenger and a very nice cover, all for $175.
