Cross country trip to the rally in Oregon... Need recommendations

In short, we are taking a month off and going cross country on the bike. We are going up to Niagra, Toronto and Lilydale, NY for Memorial Day weekend which will then bring the bike to around 24k and I figured I'd get the major tune-up then.

Here's the 1st draft of the trip we are planning and wondering if there are any points of interest you would recommend... I already have to readjust for Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone at some point.

Thanks, as always!

A couple of us rode through Yellowstone last year, and it was disappointing. It was pretty and all, and seeing buffalo and moose was a kick, but all in all, I wouldn't do it again. In fact we're planning another trip this year, down through Colorado, and back up through Wyoming, but will skirt around Yellowstone. Our intent this year is to ride The Million Dollar Highway (550?) and to hit the BearTooth Pass again. If I could recommend anything along your route, that's it. The BearTooth, by way of Jackson Hole Wy.
When you get to Redmond, there's a ride you can take around Mt Bachelor and the Cascade High Lakes. That ride is actually prettier than Yellowstone.

You might rethink the Arizona part. I live in Phoenix. (25 years). You can't imagine how hot it gets in July. There is a more northern route to Roswell from Sedona. Great riding. This is monsoon season in AZ. try to get your riding done early in this area to get ahead of the storms. They come every day and start about 1PM.

PM me if you need any help on a route through AZ. Would be glad to help.

Great Trip I am jealous You will have a great time I am sure. One thing, the world wide web is an open book. You just announced to the world that you will be gone from your place for a month. You name and town are here to see. I would be careful about that. I have aquaintnances that wrote a blog of their day to day travels only to return to their house ransacked and vehicles stolen. If anyone thinks that this is all that rare I would think twice.

Thanks for the advice thus far... That's the kind of information you can't just get from looking at a map in Google or otherwise.

I hear ya on security, but I live on a secured property and there won't be anyone coming up on this farm, promise.

And if anyone dares to break in while we're home, they should know, I'm half Italian and half Portuguese... that means I'm qualified to both make the hit and pour the cement to get rid of the body... (Plus a lot of land and shovels, so, fuggedaboutit).

Thanks again!

Hey! Great trip in store for you. I echo the "skip Yellowstone" sentiment. Glacier NP is better, less crowded, and worth the extra miles. Also, the loop north out of the Pocatello, ID area (Rt. 26 to 93) up to Challis, thence down Rt.75 through Sun Valley/Ketchum to Jerome is sweet. In '01, we saw exactly one car in one 40 mi. stretch. Outstanding.

To avoid Yellowstone, I once rode through the Wind River, WY area and over to Jackson Hole. Beautiful.

Enjoy!

I don't know how you are planning to get from the Springs to Dubois, but if time permits, following the 24 all the way to I70 is a spectacular motorcycle ride. Not heavy traffic, great roads, and the vistas are incredible. Definitely a better ride than taking the I25 north along the Front Range. Have a great trip and ride safe!

What a great sounding trip, One of these days I will be doing cross country also. If you are taking Interstate 70 from KC to Colorado Springs you will be passing through my home town.

Glacier National Park is beautiful. Northern Montana. Cody Wyoming was a cool little town also. Go to Buffalo Bill Cody's hotel. They have gun fights everyday around 5 or 6 pm.
