Replaceing Spark Plug Wires

I was out riding last Saturday and the bike started to sputter badly. Got her home and changed the plugs but the problem did not go away so I checked the wires and found that #4 wire is bad.

I am evaluating my alternatives.
1. Replace #4 with a new wire (OEM).
2. Replace all four wires with used (from ebay).
3. Get a good quality set of wires (not OEM).

Has anyone tried changing the wires with off the shelf high perfomance wires? It seems that they would work if I could find wires short enough to fit back behind the plug cover. Any thoughts?

Can you get wires with the plug ends like used on the LT? I know the stock units are $$ but they seem to last for a long time most of the time.

Re: Replaceing Spark Plug Wires

As Roy said, BE VERY CAREFUL to match EXACTLY the ends on the wire(s)/part numbers on the wire or wires, should you choose to replace more than your #4. Depending on what year yours is, the plug ends are different. A couple years ago, I had a similar problem, and both OEM p/n sets they sold me measured (ohms) out the same! You might want to check out/do a search in the FAQs for others who have asked the same question. A good starting point would be the thread:

Spark plug wire difference

Also to consider, is that if one wire is getting frail, what is the condition of the others? It's costly to replace them all, but at least that way, you know the condition.
