Antennae Replacement

Now that I've replaced the top trunk with a rear rack, I'd like to replace the whip anntenae with something shorter. Anyone with a suggestions?
Thanks.

Re: Antennae Replacement

I just took mine off as I don't listen to the radio anyway. I haven't taken off the mount as of yet and it does still pick-up local stations. A little searching on this site will turn up some who have installed hidden antennas.

Re: Antennae Replacement

Well, not sure what type antenna you have (they have two OEM models) But I reworked mine and saw a little less performance for my troubles. Removed the OEM shaft, went to Pick-n-pull and got a GM standard antenna for $2.00 took it home and chopped off the end to my liking. I did it to match my FRS antenna mounted inplace of the CB antenna.

You've got a beautiful bike, brother.
You have me thinking, could I cut off 18 inches without significant loss of signal?

Re: Antennae Replacement

YMMV- I'd suggest you not cut the OEM as it may or may not work... Get a spare or alternate....

IIRC, Barbara sported a short stubby antenna in her past life. I think Grif got it at Radio Shack. Don't know if it worked well or not, butt he wuz pleased, I think.

It has the same RS one when I got her. I lucked into the OEM one. Still the reception is crappy comparatively..

Re: Antennae Replacement

here is a picture of my antenna from Crutchfield.
I used the original antenna bracket and added a small bracket to it to hold the antenna.
The reception is good, probably less static than I was getting with the original LT antenna
Hope the picture helps, if not I can take more.
