Re: Heartless bastard!

The word envy comes to mind. 30's here in So. Illinois. Low temps do not stop one from riding, it's just that working midnights and having differing days off with the other crazies makes it difficult at times to get together. (misery loves company) I'm taking last week of the month off. Hoping for clear roads then. New years day ride just around the corner. We'll ride to the Kaskaskia river (old timers call it the Okaw) and watch the real unbalanced folk jump into the river.

Bought used K1200LT number 3. This one is green/teal with 31,369(now 7/29/2018 54,143) miles and is an '02. The first 2 bikes made it to near 150,000 miles.

Due to heart health, the Dr says not to ride under 40 degree air temp. Ugh! Now it is harder to get my 18000 miles a year in just in the summer. Guess that stopped my 20 degree rides now.

Re: Heartless bastard!

It's been hovering right around 32-38 degrees f here in eastern Washington for the last couple weeks -- which is exactly the range in which we get black ice. Fortunately, it's been a little colder in the mountains, so I was able to make a BUNCH of high speed, hard-leaning, big-carve-pull-a-G turns last night -- on my 185cm Atomics. Love the bike -- brings me close to the sensation I get when I'm skiing.

45 F here this AM on the way in...which is way cold for us pansies down here. It's one of the few days a year we get to check if the heated parts on the bike actually work.

Re: Heartless bastard!

Got to 52 F in SE Washington today and the skies were just overflowing with our own type of liquid sunshine! Great riding weather!

Minor thread hijack............

Ron, Loved your post but I've been looking at the LED's around the perimeter of your mirror. A great conspicuity addition but I'm wondering if they bother your eyes when riding at night.

On a similar note, does anyone know a source for led covers? I have been unable to locate purple LED's except in ultraviolet (duh!) and was thinking of using white LED's with purple covers or red LED's with blue covers.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Please resume normal threadishness. This hijack is now over.

Re: Heartless bastard!

As a Michigan transplant in Texas for my first winter I can relate! A little cool (38F) this AM for the ride into work, (68F) this afternoon and still nice at 6PM for the ride home. A few more daylight hours would be nice, but that's asking too much.

Miss the chance to ski, but have to make it up by riding more.

Not at all since they are "spotlight" type and point more or less straight back. All you see is a faint red glow in your peripheral vision and they are turn signal only - not running lights. (Which would be cool but way beyond my 85 IQ) If I had it to do again I would use "floodlight" LEDs instead so I would not have had to mess with drilling the holes at very specific angles for them to be effective.

Here's the original thread:

Miller Mirror Housing - Signals on Steroids!

and some video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7ZmaBr5Q2A

...and now back to your originally scheduled programming!

As a Michigan transplant myself of 37 years all I can say is you didn't move quite far enough west.

You can ride your LT to the golf course in the morning for 9 holes at one of the absolute BEST golf courses in the western US:

http://www.arizonanationalgolfclub.com

.... then drive 3 miles away and enter 32 miles of sweepers on excellent pavement on a national scenic byway gaining 7000 feet of elevation without an RV (winter only) or cop in site:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalina_Highway

... then go skiing in the afternoon at the southern most ski area in the US at Mt. Lemmon with 900 ft. of vertical where in a good year they'll get 200 inches of snow! (and then again some years they get NONE)

900 feet may sound like a lot for us ex-Michiganders but having been a professional ski host in Colorado during my younger years i may be just a wee bit jaded.

http://skithelemmon.com

Just don't tell anyone about all this, OK? ...and yes, I AM a member in good standing of the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau, where you and nine friends can take a balloon ride with me the next morning. Shameless plug but hey, I need the money:
