Help! No cruise control

I'm stuck in Denver not that its all bad but my cruise control quit. The light comes on and when I hit the set button the set light comes but no cruise control. My bike is 2000 K12LT. Any ideas? Would like to get home without holding the throttle all the way there.

Re: Help! No cruise control

A coule quick checks.. make SURE your brakes are disengaging. Make SURE your "reverse switch" is set to forward....
Make SURE your clutch handle is fully extended...
Perhaps the throttle cables are out of adjustment... could happen if they are the old ones needing replacement...

Cruise depends on no binds in the throttle cables.. because it senses how much pressure it takes to change engine speed and if the force is too great, it disengages. .. that is how you can "roll off" the throttle and disengage cruise.

If it's none of those, It may be a bad control...

Re: Help! No cruise control

The cruise control on Tarkus (00 LT) went out. I checked and adjusted the clutch micro switch and checked the micro switch at the throttle body rail and brakes. I also checked and adjusted the cable free play at the adjuster downstream of the controller and at the throttle grip IAW the manual values. Nothing worked. I then (upon the advise of a tech at BMWMCGrand Rapids) adjusted the free play at the throttle grip to make it quite loose- way more than the book values. I had cruise again. YMMV.

Cool Re: Help! No cruise control

Of course it could also be what I had happen: A broken Cruise Control (CC) cable! It is totally separate from your throttle cables, and the only indication that it is broke will be no actual CC. It runs from the CC control servo (located under the upper left nose section) down to the throttle rail.
