LT Trunk Pocket Door

Does anyone know of a fix for the door of the small compartment in the trunk of the LT. I'm on my third one since buying the bike. The small pins on either side that allow the door to drop down seem to just break off when you hit a rough patch of road. It also appears that this time the bottom part of the compartment broke where the pins on the door fit into the respective sockets. You'd think they'd have made this part out of stronger material.

thanks
Joe

Re: LT Trunk Pocket Door

This is a pretty common problem. Many of us have used a short piece of light-weight piano hinge or just a couple of small flat hinges for a permanent fix.

Re: LT Trunk Pocket Door

My best result so far is some black duct tape over the broken hinge. Lasts forever.

Broke mine shutting the lid on helmet , drill and install 1/16" weld wire in place of broken hinge pin . Now no more helmets in top box = end of problem .

Yup - ole Toad experienced that design feature early on in life. Fixed it with the piano hinge from the beeg box store and it's been golden ever since - last 8 years at least. Course, any day now could be jinx day!!!

Re: LT Trunk Pocket Door

One thing that will help prevent the door from breaking is to put a minimal amount of stuff in that storage area. Most the time when it breaks people have put their owners manual or other heavier items in there.
