Leaking Side Cases

I've ridden my 2002 LT in a couple of light rains with no evidence of any water leaking into the side cases. One night while the bike was parked outside, a strong storm came through and poured rain for a while.

The next morning, I'm about to head in to work and when I opened the side cases, both had water in them. There was much more water in the right side case. I don't remember if the bike was on the side stand or center stand.

The seals between the two parts of the cases don't appear to bear any depression resulting from continued contact with the outer lid. With the lid latched shut, I can press the lid and easily move it in slightly toward the inner part of the case. It just doesn't seem to close as tightly as it should.

I looked for some way to adjust the latching mechanism so the latch cams the lid a little tighter to the inner case. Didn't find any adjustment.

Replacing the seals costs $58 each. I'm reluctant to do that since the lids don't seem to sufficiently contact the seals in the inner case now.

Any suggestions?
