Front end "klunk" - time for a shock?

2002LT, 25k miles.

First occurring a year or so ago, it is now more common for me the get a bone-jarring "klunk" in the front end when I hit a shallow pothole, at 30mph or so. Feels like a hammer blow through the handlebars. One"klunk" was hard enough to unsnap two of the three snaps holding on the side mirror.

My thoughts lean towards a bad front shock topping out and hitting metal-on-metal. Anybody else have experience to confirm this, or is something else loose?

Yep, I had the same at about 30,000 miles..then I replaced the front & rear shock with HyperPro' more clunk.
