Question Anyone know a dealer with 2009 (10) K12LT?

As you can see from the attached pics, I believe that State Farm will total my 2005 (with 73k). So, this is what happens when a K12 hits a stopped cage in a 35MPH zone, with no signal, and a panic stop to make an abrupt left turn.

Oh yeah, Broken nose (had a full face Nolan, but hit the top of the windshield), bruised chest cavity, bump on left shin, and sprained left wrist.

I bounced back about 3 feet, and the bike fell hard to the left, throwing me into oncoming traffic, 6 - 8 feet. Nolan took a hit on the pavement, so a new N103 is in my future.

35 years, 248,000 miles. and it happened so freakin fast............

WOW. The LT (and you) took a real shot. Glad to hear you are relatively unscathed.

There are some lessons in this for all of us, especially about wearing a helmet.

I know, I edited to '09-'10, but the overall Title did not change. I use that trailer for 911 MC recovery, it is set up with two baxley chocks, and occasionally, my wife and I take our bikes (with mucho other stuff) to visit our kids in NY and VA.

Aw get ya some rubbing compound and that'll do the trick!

Looks like the bike took the brunt of the accident and glad that you are just bumped up a little. Wonder what will happen to the salvageable parts?

good question. The freakin engine was (is) running so sweet! it started right up after I stood it back up, and just purred. never a hint of final drive issues, or clutch slip. I really dont see them fixing it though, everything up in there is just crushed.

A left hander pulling out in front of you..has always been my biggest fear.
Im reallt glad your ok.
You sure the bike isnt easily repairable? (some how I feel like Clark Griswold's Eddy asking to keep the chair- just re-cover the chair after the cat blew up)..

Sure is still a beauty tho= when ya replace all the stuff on front...

Re: Anyone know a dealer with 2010 (11) K12LT?

mconlogue I am glad you are ok. That is my biggest fear (like haughty) while driving and a cage get in the way just like that. I am surprise that you broke your nose with a full face, helmet but I am glad you had a full face could be worse. Good gear makes a big difference on those occasions. Have a good recovery and good luck finding a new bike. Let us know what happends with the insurance and your recovery.

Sorry about the pains and aches Mark, but glad you are relatively unscathed!
The bike can (and I am sure) will be replaced.
Make sure the insurance also buys you new riding gear!
Maybe Tony (Deputy521 would like to buy your bike and part it out... Just a thought.

it would be an awesome source for Tony, all service up to date. (less than 500 miles on all fluid changes ) but, we will see next Tuesday what happens with the adjuster.
Spinedr. the visor was up on my Nolan, as it was 92 degrees, the '05 has a short windshield, so it slid off the chin piece, and came up under my nose.

I did have my chiro adjustment this morning with DR Reeder (Lewiston ME) and feel much better tonight. Ribs are very tender though...

When I first read your account I had the impression you rear-ended the car, because you state it stopped abruptly to make a left (so it would be in your lane). Others seem to think it turned left in front of you - just curious which is it?

Glad you weren't hurt more seriously - although a broken nose isn't too much fun. BMW has attractive financing through June 1 .

Re: Anyone know a dealer with 2010 (11) K12LT?

and... The mechanic and 3 others who helped me offload this morning had never seen anything quite like this. Fred indicated that it was as bad damage as he had seen to the front end of a bike. when i turned the bars, you could watch the fork springs flexing where the fork tubes used to be, and the wheel staying put.....

i have a free airline ticket, and will drive back from wherever. the wrist should be able to clutch in 3-5 days, and then i am good to go.

my local dealer does not have (nor will he order) a K12.

the nearest one is at Max BMW in NH. (other issues there....) i have not done any phone dealing yet, as I do not know what the total $$ figure is for the wreck.

I should be back on the road within the next 2 weeks (i hope)

Bob's BMW has a '09 in his inventory, and Hebert Cycle in Baton Rouge, LA had one last time I was in there for a service check. I think the rumor mill has the 2010(11) as a K1600 not a K1200

Take a look at Hermys in central PA, he has a 2009 LT in stock. From what I hear from other local riders, this is a good place to deal.

Check with Irv Seaver BMW in Orange, CA, or Brown BMW in Pomona, CA. I know there's one sitting at Irv's.

I saw a black 09 LT at Browns this week. I will be there tomorrow and will see if it is still there.

Wow, that's quite a hit and good to hear you'll be up and about riding again soon.

Every time I think of ditching my full face helmet for something less restrictive I'll remember your story. Two hits in one accident. Ouch. I can't even IMAGINE how bad that would have hurt with a three quarter open face...

I often also ride with my shield open (full-face helmet for me always also) and need to rethink that. It is just so nice when the temps are above 90 to have a little breeze in your face. I never thought about hitting the windshield like that, and especially with the robust polycarbonate shields that BMW uses. Obviously, they don't break easily as his still looks intact in the pictures.

Thanks for the reply - hopefully the lack of tail lights witnessed by the officers will be the end of the incident.

There was a Black '09 LT at Ventura BMW last week, too - long way to come but a great ride back - could almost do a hardway 50CC except for having to fit in a 600 mile service.

Mark, I am sure you can run the first 600 miles in a day or 2 here in SOCAL, then have the first service done and be on your way to the right coast. Or you can schedule the first service at a dealer on the way back home...
If you can fly to Burbank I can pick you up, and you can use our guest bedroom. I am only a few miles away from BMW of Ventura County.
If you bring the farkles you want to install before your trip back I have all the tools, a garage, and a lift. PM me if that sounds like a plan.

Re: Anyone know a dealer with 2009 K12LT?

My local dealer is "attempting" to locate a 2009, and is waiting to hear back from somebody. His sales guy said that there are 115+ still sitting in BMW warehouses, with no home in sight, but 3+ weeks for delivery.

So, I drove 90 minutes, and went to Max BMW. '09 on the showroom floor. just asking (no dickering yet) he went from 22,510 down to 20,500 OTD. delivered to my home (just over 90 miles away). I cannot find the dealer price online, and do not know what kind of dealer spiff BMW is giving him on the back end.

any thoughts on this price?

Thanks for the offer Gilles!

one question though. does the GPS wiring on the '09 direct hook up into the BMW NavII cradle? i only have the gps, and suburban machinery lowering kit to install, so not a big deal. Hopefully, the one 90 mins away will come through, and i can drive down with my wife to pick it up.

It beats everything else I have seen at the local dealerships... But do you want the bike delivered to your home or do you want to pick it up and ride it home yourself? You may get an extra discount if the dealer doesn't have to deliver it... Just a thought.

Mark,
Looks like there are plenty of new '09's closer, but I was at Ride West BMW in Seattle on Thursday and they have a black '09 on the showroom floor. You could do a corner to corner ride on the way back. Ha! Good luck and glad you got away with just bumps and bruises.

If I was you I would look for a '08 instead. You get the comm system FREE on the '08s.
Thats a couple thousand if you are going to add it. IMHO.
I know a dealer that has a couple. And he will give you a good price!

It has about 2,800 miles on it now - they're asking about $18,500. Tires already show a lot of wear.

Re: Anyone know a dealer with 2010 (11) K12LT?

Seems like most dealers have one (1) K12LT on the floor. If they sell that one, BMW will ship them another to sell. Since a new KLT is in the wind they aren't too interested in getting a load of K12LT's on the floor. When the R1150RT and the R1200GS came out, they could move the R1100Rt or the R1150GS's they had in stock.

Might want to cover your options with an interim K1200LT till the new bikes come out.

Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you're okay. I don't know if you would be interested but there is a 2009 LT with 1500 miles listed on Craigslist (Detroit) for $18,500. Don't know if it's still available. It was listed on 5/22.

Looks like a total. parts&labor $13,600.00+ on a bike with 72k+ on it. (and that was without much of the tupperware being removed!) State Farms Claims has moved it to the "total loss" department. No word yet on $$.

I just spoke with street cycles, and they will have a 2009 k12LT inhouse for pickup next Tuesday. they price matched at $20,679 OTD.

BMW NA is shipping one in a crate from the main warehouse in NJ tonight.

I hear that there is no 2010 model LT. The new bike (either a K1600 or 1800LT) will be a 2011 model and begin shipments somewhere between September 2010 and March of 2011.
