There is a kit available from the dealer which upgrades it to a later version, one that has a voltage sensing circuit to keep the relay from engaging when the battery voltage is too low, and fusing the contacts together. That kit has installation instructions in it.

If you do not want to do the kit, and use a stock early relay, it is in the electrical box under the fuel tank. You have to remove the tank first, then the cover on the box.

If you do not have a service manual, you should look at getting one, either the BMW one or the Haynes (Chilton?), which is cheaper.

so, where does the green wire connect to? The instructions I received with the kit were all in German; and the photos were not clear.

You can download the PDF file of these instructions in ENGLISH (with photos included) by clicking on the PDF symbol just below item 1 in this MAX-BMW parts fiche page here.
NOTE: you need to scroll down the right side pane of parts list to see PDF file link:
MAX BMW Motorcycles - BMW Parts & Technical Diagrams - K1200LT 99-04 (89V3)

About the GREEN wire:
You can use either GREEN wires coming out of ABS Warning-relay as they are both switched power from same source (ignition switch).

Just make sure you crimp with pliers, just because that little black connector clicks does not mean that it is crimped.
